Of the Bulge... I remember it used to be embarrassing when I'd go out on dates and not be able to keep my wiener in check.
It's like, "hello, I realize we have a long night together... hope you don't mind me walkin' around with this cucumber in my crotch.''

Battle of Drøbak Sound

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Drøbak_Sound

The most comical skirmish I've ever heard about. Occured during WWII on the first day of the German invasion of Norway as a German fleet sailed past the Oscarsborg Fortress near Drøbak intent on seizing the Norwegian capital and capturing Haakon VII, the Norwegian king, and his government. Because the ageing fortress' Main Battery of guns were over 40 years old the Germans saw it as no military threat and continued up the Oslofjord. The Norwegian commander was the aging 64 year old Birger Eriksen who had recieved no orders about how to deal with the situation and had no idea whether the ships were Allied or German (both of whom were threatening Norways' neutrality), he decided to give the orders to fire despite the fact that most his soldiers were fresh recruits with no less than 7 days in the service. 2 shots were fired from the German (Krupp) made guns Moses and Aron (!) and both hit the lead ship, the Heavy Cruiser Blücher. The guns were only fired once as there was not enough men to man them and the Cooks had to be woken up to help fire these two rounds, a third gun named Joshua was armed but couldn't be fired because there was no one to man it. The Blücher now on fire sailed on and was hit by 40 year old torpedos that the Norwegians had no idea would still be functional or not, they were and the ship exploded killing 650 - 800 Germans. 1200 survivors reached the shore and the Norwegian defenders began tending to the wounded rather than taking them prisoner. This error allowed German top officers including Generalmajor Erwin Engelbrecht, to slip away to the nearest road and capture a Norwegian truck at gunpoint and drive to their original destination the Hotel Continental in Oslo only two hours later than planned, minus their troops of course. Although the Germans prevailed in the end the delay gave time for the Germans' original targets, the King, the Norwegian cabinet, the Storting (Norwegian Parliament) and the national gold reserve; to escape Oslo and capture.
