i just ordered my first box set, and im really excited to play. how many of you guys are or were into this classic rpg? is it really as fun as its made out to be?

I have been playing tabletop games for 12 years. Once a week for 12 years. And for the last 6 months another one. I have played so many systems I don't even know.

Exalted, AD&D, 3.0, 3.5, PRPG, Scion, Paranoia, Marvel Universe, An Everquest Tabletop, Rokugan, Robotech, Mechwarrior, Hero's Quest, Gamma World, and Cthulhu.

Frankly, I hate table top games. They are annoying and stupid ;)

one of the things that attracts me is the fact that people who play have played for a long time.

im going to start with D&D and see what else is awesome too. its hard to know where to start exactly.

There are a few to avoid. Human Occupied Wasteland. I don't like World of Darkness but a lot of people do. Know Your Role (I forgot to add) is a joke. I own a Shadowrun book but have not played. I think it looks really good and want to try. (We could do a PbP here on the board if enough people want to try.)

Although we should try a FATAL game sometime. (Look it up)

Fantasy Adventure To Adult Lechery! haha nice one. i got a free copy of witchcraft earlier today. i wonder how good that one is.

I never even heard of that one.

And you did look up FATAL. It is named Worst RPG Ever. We accutally could not play it on here with the constant references to rape. I would be willing to host a Play by Post on here though. I just don't have any 4E books anymore. My brother has them.

Check out the Savage Worlds system. That's been my system of choice for the past few years because it's insanely easy and rules light. And the settings are pretty good as well...my favorite being Necessary Evil where you get to play a super villain. Doomsday Barbie for the win!

And I'm actually running some paranoia games this week at a con in the UK. Ought to be up for some good laughs, especially if I can attract some vetran players...it really is just going and getting a water sample. Honest!

fable? is that a tabletop game too?

Fable is a computer/consul game. Not bad, but will never make up for table top gaming because eventually it ends. :)

Yes Play by post of D&D, but not FATAL. Like I said. FATAL breaks a lot of the forum rules by the rulebook alone. I could do a lot of different systems though. My favorite setting being SCION from white wolf.

But rules wise I can't compete with Pathfinder.

And like our lord and master Petra says. Fable may be good (It is) but I have yet to see a computer game even come close to comparing with a tabletop game. being tabletop games have almost unlimited freedom of actions.

Also never played Savage World. So it's pretty good? What's the setting like?

what the fuck you lookin at?
I played a table top game for about a year 10 years ago. It was pretty damn fun! I don't remember which one it was though. I'm sure D&D would be a blast.

The only issue that occurred to me is dice rolling. The PbP stuff I normally do is on a site called RPoL.net and it has a dice roller built in.

this game can be dangerous! people have gone crazy playing this game.

That is a bold faced lie. Anyone who plays this game is be default crazy

ohh yeah. i think ive seen it now that you've mentioned it. :)

indeed, the prospect of a never ending adventure is really appealing to me on a tabletop game.

I have played a lot of the classic games with my friends, years ago. Firts, D&D, then MIdgard, later Fading Suns (The game the Stargate series was ripped of, the creators decided not to sue), Warhammer, you name it.

D&D is, to me, the ultimate starter pack.

Later - well, where you want to go? medieval, sci-fi, gore, there is so much around.

To me, I best liked Warhammer. The writers were very tongue in cheek and we played an adventure agains a demon called 'Zahnarzt' (German for: Dentist) who was to, like evil superpowers do, enslave the world

Go for that, later, when you got the concept of roleplaying working. Because, really, the fun is in the creating a role and really acting and walking+talking in it.

Everone can go and slay monsters and save princesses, but it takes some extra work to build a role
