The name or cause of "God" has been, and will always be, invoked in the most horrendous of atrocities and also in the greatest of greatness. As with anything that we as human beings cannot see, feel, or smell, etc., there is ALWAYS going to be self-serving manipulation (both good and bad) of the concept of "God." Every religion, faith, or belief system does this, although not necessarily intentionally so.

Books, speeches, and writings of any sort (even e-mails or posts on message boards like this one) are completely subject to each person's interpretation and misunderstanding, or clear understanding. It's all reliant or dependent upon each person's point of view, personal situation, and core nature/belief system.

Anyone can take any thought or writing and interpret it to serve a certain cause or agenda. In the case of religion or faith, I personally can only hope that people will simply try to do the right and best thing for humanity - not themselves.

My little rambling and :2 cents:

Nightfly, you are impressing me! You must read a lot of history.

well i believe in GOD

but there are so many different religions many of which promote different things and different gods. but if you research them closely they all have similarities in what they believe in. for example muslims believe in basically the same god that christians do they jus believe that christ wasn't the son of god and they still wait for the son of god. where as christians believe the son of god is christ.

if you followed that.......

.....you will understand why i believe there is a god

Personally, I could give a rat's ass what someone believes in.

As long as it help's them, never encourages or justifies them to do bad things and they don't try to ram it down anyone else's throat in even the slightest degree. Power to you.

BUT - all of the above rarely is the case.

To me it is a waste of time. You gotta be pretty weak and/or naive and/or desperate to change your life in any meaningful capacity on the basis of some un-substantiated writings of thousands of years ago.
But it it makes you a truly better person - have at it. I won't try and stop you.

Maybe in YOUR own experiences in life, mcrocket, this is true. But for others, the diametrically opposite is also true as well. But you know what? I'll actually agree with you to a certain extent... much to your surprise, I'm sure. However... it works BOTH ways. You're entitled to your views... just don't ram your views down MY throat in return.

And as for weaknesses? I'll take it a step further and break it down to its most basic, elemental level:

An individual must be rather weak and desperate to allow oneself to succumb to far more detrimental and harmul vices/addictions such as:

> Illicit drug use, abuse, and addiction;
> Alcohol use, abuse, and addiction;
> Sexual dysfunction and addiction;
> Anger management issues;
> Rape;
> Murder.

Etc., etc., etc.

Now, to address your thinly veiled pseudo insult regarding Christians and those who choose to believe:

I personally know plenty of people who have:

A): Had some semblance of spritual connection help them lead much more fuller and better lives. People hold on to hope to make it through this shitty, fucked up world;

B): Who don't have criminal records for drug abuse and addiction, robbery, rape, theft, murder, etc., etc., etc.;

C): That don't ram their beliefs down anyone else's throat and will sit passively by while people make fun of them for having faith in something someone else finds incomprehensible; for believing in something that others find silly or ludicrous; and who show nothing but tolerance for those who abhor them.

For someone who claims to be so liberal, learned,and open-minded, you sure do have a way of displaying an arrogance that undoubtedly hides deep-seated insecurities regarding things of a religious nature as well as an extremely narrow-minded mindset regarding anything that doesn't fall into your cone of personal beliefs.

In closing, if you don't give a rat's ass.... then why do you bitch and complain about it so much? It seems to me that if you really didn't care, then you wouldn't comment on it - religion and faith - so much and so often with such an incredible vehemence. Could it be that you feel threatened by it?

So... why not show some of that magnanimous open-minded, liberal kind-heartedness you proclaim you possess and just let us - the so-called foolish, "naive", and "weak" believers - live in our own little warped fantasy land? After all, how does OUR beliefs hurt or harm YOU personally?

More power to you... :hatsoff:

When did I ever type that I was so liberal, learned and/or open-minded?

I said as long as no one ram's it down anyone else's throat at all. You are not doing that here?
And threatened? By what? The thousand year old heresay ramblings of someone that wrote a book? No. And besides. What the heck is threatening about religion?

Once again. When did I type that I was kind hearted?

Go ahead. Why are YOU so sensitive btw? Whatever happened to turn the other cheek.
I happen to believe that the only reason's people turn to religion is because they are ignorant, weak or desperate. Prove to me they are not and I will retract that belief. Does that apply to drug addicts, criminals and so forth? Sure. But I think there is more ignorance involved with religion then crime.
And please try to heed your own words. If you have anything to say to me of a negative manner - please pm me. Just following your instructions in your above post.

Fair enough!

I was actually teasing you just then in that previous reply.

I'll formulate my answers and then post 'em up.

Anything I want? Okay. I want Traci Topps face on Tiffany Towers body - both when they were 25. I REALLY, REALLY want it.

So...where is it?

LOL.

Oh, okay. I thought you were rubbing my nose in something or other.

It's okay then. I do not need the answer. :)

I tell you what. If he gets me a Traci Topps facially lookalike and a Tiffany Towers bodywise lookalike (both when they were about 25) and provides them with a personality that is mutually compatible AND instills in this woman a complete love and lust for me and fixes it so we meet and fall in love....
then I will believe in God. Or at least, consider a more open mind about it.

well, most scientist would admit, you can not get somthing from nothing. id bet my life that a poll amungst scientist would reveal that more believe in a creater or god than do not.
this ones a no brainer. there just is a god.

How do you get from "you can't get something from nothing" to the conclusion that there is a god?

Part of me does believe in God. I'm still having my doubts, especially after seeing my mother die right in front of me almost 5 years ago. I think the biggest question on everyone's mind is: Why do things happen the way they do, and for what reason? That is the biggest factor as to why people doubt there is a God.
