EDIT: Jason beat me to it.

It's funny you should idolise this man so much when he was so vehemently atheist, Will. Isn't that a slight contradiction in your idiology? Especially as you put so much weight into his philosophy of life.

Is George Carlin in hell Will?

George Carlin, your man you like to quote Will E says this about religion.

I would never want to be a member of a group whose symbol was a guy nailed to two pieces of wood.

We created god in our own image and likeness!

I credit that eight years of grammar school with nourishing me in a direction where I could trust myself and trust my instincts. They gave me the tools to reject my faith. They taught me to question and think for myself and to believe in my instincts to such an extent that I just said, 'This is a wonderful fairy tale they have going here, but it's not for me.'

If churches want to play the game of politics, let them pay admission like everyone else

When it comes to BULLSHIT...BIG-TIME, MAJOR LEAGUE BULLSHIT... you have to stand IN AWE, IN AWE of the all time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims, religion

This is on topic how... I think you're just following Will around and flaming him. :2 cents:

That's what I was thinking a long time ago. ;)

George Carlin, your man you like to guote Will E says this about religion.

I know what he has said. He also, said, "Never forget Proverbs."

“When it comes to God’s existence, I’m not an atheist and I’m not an agnostic. I’m an acrostic. The whole thing puzzles me.” - George Carlin

When Carlin was being interviewed on the Inside the Actors Studio, he said something along the same lines. he wasn't an Atheist, he basically saw them as another type of religious organization.

Seems like Carlin wanted to believe in God. ;)

Here's Bill Maher and his twisted "logic".

""I'm not an atheist. There's a really big difference between an atheist and someone who just doesn't believe in religion. Religion to me is a bureaucracy between man and God that I don't need. But I'm not an atheist, no." I believe there's some force. If you want to call it God... I don't believe God is a single parent who writes books. I think that the people who think God wrote a book called The Bible are just childish.
Religion is so childish. What they're fighting about in the Middle East, it's so childish.

These myths, these silly little stories that they believe in fundamentally, that they take over this little space in Jerusalem where one guy flew up to heaven--no, no, this guy performed a sacrifice here a thousand million years ago. It's like, "Who cares? What does that have to do with spirituality, where you're really trying to get, as a human being and as a soul moving in the universe?" But I do believe in a God, yes." - Bill Maher, 2002

(For those who think his position has changed, feel free to watch Bill's September, 2008 interview on the Daily Show. While promoting Religulous, he stated that he is not an atheist because he sees it as the mirror image of theism - a dogmatic certainty.)

But, he does believe in God?

Wow, this is a hot issue (no pun intended). :1orglaugh

But lets get back on topic.

Believers, I want facts and reports to back your claims.

Skeptics, same from you.

Let's do this! :scream:

One or two points to set a context. When people first started making records (roughly 1700 with the adoption of the thermometer) the Earth was in the late stages of a Little Ice Age.When coming out of such a thing it's obvious that temperatures will be on the rise.So when people say "It's been the hottest year on record" that doesn't in itself mean a lot.Ice core analysis shows that the planet was warmer than today 1000,2000 and 3000 years ago-there appears to be a (roughly) 1000 year cycle with smaller ones superimposed on it.
Over the last 100 years CO2 levels have been relentlessly rising. But until the 1940s it was warming, then cooled to the mid 70s , warmed again until 1998 since when it's been relatively static though might have cooled a little again. So the effect of CO2 isn't clear and it certainly isn't the main engine in climate change or temperatures would have been constantly rising.
The IPCC issued a statement about the human contribution to climate change. This was not a consensus but a majority report , no minority report was allowed. This is bad science. In any case the body and the careers/livelihoods of the people working depend upon fostering belief in the human contribution;who would pay for them all if they came out with an all clear? Further, being a climatologist is in the same class as becoming a clergyman-you only join if you believe.A vicar doesn't go to work to prove that God doesn't exist! So it's very difficult to obtain a dispassionate view of the whole topic.
On a geological scale the trend will be upwards until we reach the next ice age.Now that WILL be a problem!

I do not believe in it. Not at all. I think it is and has been a scam perpetrated by those who can profit off of the idea.

I really do not think we have had as much of an impact as some would really like to believe we have.

Re: Do you believe in global warming?

I thought that they're calling it "climate change" since we come to find that there is no real "meaningful" increase in temps. :1orglaugh

"Global Warming" is an ideology IMNSHO. It's also a clever way to get people mobilized / involved in political action. credit the democrats for that.

We should always be good stewards for our environment but we don't have to go out in the deep end; just be logical, calm and pragmatic.

No, I bet all those vast overwhelming majority of scientist are all coincidently lying or don't know what they are doing or maybe they are all a part of some secret society that's jobs is to spread lies and the vast overwhelming body of evidence that says global warming is real and is caused by human's changing our very atmosphere is all a big international conspiracy. I think all those pictures of glaciers getting smaller, snow on mountaintops disappearing, and the Artic and Antarctic ice shelves getting smaller is just faked and can't be real. I think we have all been hypnotized to see that the level of the oceans are getting higher and it isn't happening. I think all the thermometers and weather stations have been tampered with the give false warmer readings even if they seem perfectly fine on inspection. I think that altering the very chemistry of our freaking atmosphere would logically have absolutely no effect on the ecosystems and weather patterns that operate in it. I think that pumping more of a gas that we know to have greenhouse like properties in the atmosphere can't possibly do anything. I think one of the biggest recorded spikes in temperature in the world's history that we know about that is happing in almost an instant at a geological timeframe and is happening right at the same time the world become industrialized and is pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere is pure coincidence. I think all those Antarctic ice samples that show a pretty good correlation between carbon dioxide levels and temperate is a pure fabrication.

You know, because it's a lot easier to believe all that than to believe something as sanely logical as GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL AND CAUSED BY HUMAN'S CHANGING THEIR ENVIROMENT.

i'd say its impossible for humans to live in an environment and not have some type of impact on it. i'd say thats probably true for any animal. so yeah, i'd say we are impacting the earth in some fashion. to what extent? no clue. why? because a debate on our planet's welfare always turns into political mumbo jumbo bullshit namby pamby fuck-all, and we get mired in that silly muck and totally lose the true scientific directive.

are we changing the planet? yep. will we stop long enough to agree as to what effect? nope. why? because we love to just bitch at one another and not really solve shit. true story. I have no recollection as to when politics surpassed sports as the national/worldwide past-time, but i fuckin hate that day with a grotesque passion. it seems to retard every act of communication i'm involved in these days.

Yes. But I believe it is a natural evolutionary occurrence. Not man made. We may be be speeding it up, but not much. There have been great floods, ice ages, and heat eras before.

This entire thread is a revelation. WillE becomes the evangelical before our eyes.

Do Christians call other people worthless, WillE? You attack everyone in this thread and most other threads, you call philosophic giants "liars" with only scripture to support your assessment? Good GOD that's lame

That doesn't seem very Christian-like, fwiw. Faith is not supposed to be a win/lose contest. If other people don't agree with you, aren't you supposed to leave them alone?

Organized religion is the domain of the weak-minded, and the Bible is the source of those who "shepherd" the weak-minded. That seems like a natural convenience to me...

Careful now, Grasshopper will think that your trying to flame Will E because your counter pointing him like I did.
I think you're just following Will around and flaming him.

Will E why do you think religious leaders are called "shepherds"?

I believe the Earth is warmer than it was a hundred years ago. I don't think it's the giant calamity that it's being made out to be.

Its the biggest fucking scam going and Obama is buying it. His result? Tax American companies even more and chase them out while the rest of the world fucking pollutes at will!
