Sadly the overwhelming majority of people know how to use a computer, but know nothing about them; however in the late 70's through the 80's people who had computers usually knew a fair amount about them. On the surface technology is now so simple anyone can use it without knowing anything about it. I suppose the same thing happened with the automobile if you owned one in the 1920's you knew a lot about it, now there are people who can't change a tire, or the oil.
It has always amazed me that the more technologically advanced our society becomes, the less the majority of the people know.
