Disney Buys Lucasfilm, Announces
New Star Wars Movie For 2015

Less than three years after buying Marvel for $4 billion, The Walt Disney Company has announced it will acquire Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion in cash and stock. With the news arrives word that a new Star Wars movie will be released in 2015.

Current Lucasfilm co-chair Kathleen Kennedy will become Lucasfilm president, reporting to Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn, and serve as brand manager for the Star Wars franchise. In addition she will be executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, including Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015, “with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.”

He was Padme's substitute in the Senate, Padme was a great defender of Democracy, Jar-Jar's the one who proposed that the Senate give emergency power to Chancelor Palpatine. He's the one allowed Palpatine to end Democracy.

I wonder what this means for post JotJ Star Wars Extended Universe. My bet is that the canon of it will be put in the trash. With everything that happened from the New Jedi Order series of books onward I don't mind nearly as much because they sucked and pretty much ruined what the prequels and Clone Wars cartoon didn't, but other books before that were great. I don't suppose they will be smart enough to do a movie adaptation of Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy.

About the only good thing this might do is 1. Get Lucas out of the way so his flaws with his own creation don't keep coming through with the new stuff, and 2. Erase some of the dumb concepts Star Wars has come up with in the little less than 15 years that have ruined Star Wars through now there being an excuse for them to go through reconing and rebooting. Of course that means all the good stuff will go with it, and of course that doesn't mean the new stuff won't make even dumber concepts come about either.

No they're not. They are making original stories based on George Lucas' notes. At least that's what I read.
