Speaking of England, not Europe, the biggest difference I have noticed from being English for 31 years and meeting lots of Americans, is that I'm perfectly happy to state that my country is a shithole that I can't wait to leave, and that there are a million things other countries do better, and yet when I've talked to Yanks about their own country they've verbally castrated me for trying to suggest they weren't perfect.

I'm not saying I hate America and that it's all a fucked up country. And I don't wanna offend any Americans. I love many things about America and they're doing many things right. But they're also, just like maybe every other nation as well, doing many things wrong. I just think Americans shouldn't take their own country so seriously. They should be able to admit their faults and bad sides and be able to laugh at themselves.

The jokes are all fun - and we Americans do some crazy ass shit that the rest of the world just shakes their heads to. But in all seriousness, I've traveled Europe and lived for 13 years in Germany and have a very deep love for both the German culture and my own average white American cultural background. Cultures fascinate me and sometimes I find myself wishing I could take the great things about a bunch of cultures and make a new one - and that's when I realize that that's exactly what American culture is - a mix of the best and the worst of many of the world most contrasting cultures - the part that pisses me off the most is the puritan Dutch influence and I think the one I enjoy the most is the sounds, moods and rhythms of the African influence.
