Debunking the myth: The cost of Obama's trip to Asia

NeoCons no matter what never fail to make false claims and cite credible sources

Those numbers, according to Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann, are: $200 million a day, $2 billion total, 34 diverted Navy ships, a 2,000-person presidential entourage, and 870 hotel rooms in India.

"And these are five-star hotel rooms at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel," Bachmann told CNN's "AC 360" Wednesday night.

Pressed by Cooper to back up her numbers, Bachmann said, "These are the numbers that are coming out in the press."

Hannity, Beck and Limbaugh had a field day with this. Even if you are a conservative how in the hell could you believe this it just sounds so made up. I think that HBL know that isn't the truth but they know they have a bunch of suckers who follow them and will believe anything they say so they just decide to run with it regardless if it is true or not.

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
Be glad he's paying attention to foreign affairs. Until he starts a massively expensive pointless war, he's not being as fiscally irresponsible as W.

The funniest debunk I heard was from the DoD which said the entire war in Afghanistan (only) costs $180 million per day....

That right there alone should throw up all sorts of red flags. To believe that people continue to believe so even after seeing this is just proof that people in this country hate using their heads and would much rather be told what to believe.

In the original story the use of the term "anonymous official" was a dead giveaway that the story was bogus from the very beginning.

It's gonna cost far too much to even withdraw the troops from Afghanistan. Best just withdraw the guns and machinery and leave the men behind. You can always make more men.

Obama makes a trade trip to India. Tries to help they and us economically. He speaks in a place that was smacked by terrorists. He brought along some expensive muscle for it. Good. He brought his family. Sorry he's young and has young kids...right, JFK? Obama goes to a hotbed of American interests. India hates Pakistan. We have to bridge the gap. We have to play both ends against the middle in this nuclear region. Obama sits in the Oval Office and goes nowhere because it's too expensive? Conservatives and Obama haters call him a "poor foreign policy president." Obama apparently can't win. Obama gets buried in the midterm elections by a near GOP sweep. He correctly seeks a "work together" solution. GOP calls him a "Johnny-Come-Lately." New House majority leader Boehner agrees, but condemns health care and Obama's plan of Bush's tax cut repeals for the rich...

I don't see anything here much different than before. Except Obama is black.

As much as I oppose the guy, he's the president and for once this trip to India is a good idea as a way to sort of poke Pakistan into a bit more cooperation, of course, I do believe he has to come clean with the expenses and if it's all kosher then okay, case closed.

I guess the concern on the commentators on the right is that the cost is due to the fact that there's about 3,000 people going (that's the number I heard), who are they? His family? That's okay. Secret service people? He needs them. Extra security because it's an area at high risk for terrorism? Yup, he needs them. Clerical and logistics personnel? Yup, needed. But what if he's taking and paying for A LOT of his supporters? A few would be acceptable I guess but if the majority of them are people he owes favors to and their families then we got a problem. So who is he taking with him?

Basically...it's part of the dude's job to travel and I doubt he's taking anyone beyond his close personal circle who doesn't need to go...and the amount of advance security and active security is what the secret service recommends.

Anyone making a deal out of this is just babbling to hear themselves speak IMO.

It's amazing how much discussion, airtime and attention GOPers are able to occupy simply by reiterating an absurdity. Truly amazing.

More amazing his how they couch their absurdities in a way that compels others to actually respond to it.

Would literally in some cases be like goading someone into debating whether the sun is hot.:dunno:

They keep reiterating these lies because they know that if they keep repeating them that enough people will believe it or repeat it ,even if they know it is untrue, to cast Obama in a negative light(See 'Obama is a MUSLIM').
If they keep repeating these stories of the Obamas extravagent taxpayer funded trips(Michelle's vacation a few months back) they can touch a nerve with the most uninformed in these tough economic times.

Same type of lies (Affair of the Necklace & the apocryphal 'let them eat cake') happened to Marie Antoinette during tough economic times in France & it eventually contributed to her losing her fucking head:eek:

While Marie Antoinette was a victim of 18th century lies/rumors/misinformation it is a damn shame/inexplicable that in this INFORMATION AGE garbage like this even gets any legs.

Similar to liberal/leftist mainstream media. Huh fancy that.:1orglaugh

Thanks for validating my point about generic Conservatives failing non-stop to cite credible sources to back up their opinions.

I must also add that wannabe Conservatives aim low instead of aiming high when it comes to achieving credibility, integrity, ethics and standards.

I pity the apologist fools who justify and advocate the biggest lies being told by the fake Conservative MSM

People need to accept that business trips of country's leaders can not be cheap. Like already pointed out, all the security, the transportation, safe staying, the staff that do the detail work, a LOT of things to take care of.

It has always been like that, it will always be, just now it's not a republican president it suddenly is on your table?

Speaking as a conservative, even if he did bring 3000 people and did rent out 850 rooms that is still 3-4 to a room. Government, military and group rates do get a discount too I'm sure. I'm not one for the Presidents policies but he should have gotten a great deal with that booking. Sound financial practice.

The only prob bobjb....if you think this is loony...I fear this is just the tip of the ice-berg. This is what you get far too often from your side...not that the left doesn't have it's share of loons but the left just doesn't seem to prop them up and perpetuate their nonsense.

Like Maher says....(paraphrasing) you think the Republicans in charge in the late '90s were batshit...this group is worse. Just think how much of the country's energy and resources were wasted to investigate a bj..........This new bunch is loonier...and Clinton was white.

I'm trying to think of a good over/under percentage for some loony GOPer to try and impeach Obama for being a socialist because he woke up on the left side of his bed.

Thanks for validating my point that the mainstream media(MSNBC/NYT included) are left leaning outlets. :hatsoff:
