Cricket scandal.

Curling is a precision team sport similar to bowls or bocce, played on a rectangular sheet of prepared ice by two teams of four players each, using heavy polished granite stones which they slide down the ice towards a target area called the house. Points are scored for the number of stones that a team has closer to the center of the target than the closest of the other team's stones. The level of precision and complex nature of the strategic thinking required to win has led curling to be referred to as "chess on ice."

I think the game itsel is just stupid and boring... the only game I find more boring is curling.

To be interesting to watch, asport as to be quite spectacular, i think. Like soccer is, like football is, like rugby is, like athletism is, like basket bal is, etc...

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it boring and stupid, the Ashes series between England and Australia was some of the most incredible sporting drama you will ever see. Seen as you know nothing about it maybe you should keep your silly opinions to yourself.

I have only in the past couple of years began to enjoy watching test Cricket. However I have loved watching 1-day games for about 5/6 years now. Also 20/20 Cricket has made players more aggressive which means play has speeded up a bit and this makes the game more enjoyable to me.

I generally can't stand cricket but then I'm the same with football too but I have to agree the Ashes last summer was enthralling; probably the most captivating sporting event I can remember. However, rugby is a different matter; it captivates me for different reasons and Saint Helens' Ade Gardner is particularly captivating!:)

Re: A Cricketing thread???

OK:

  1. Let's have this thread renamed "A Cricketing thread???" (makes it easier to find, eh wot?)
  2. While The Ashes may seem a forgone conclusion, hope still remains eternal.....

Good Luck England.....

Congratulations to a fantastic Cricket player - Brian Lara -

I play cricket and am a one of the best bowlers on my team, but the worst batter in the whole world

What I don't like about the sport of Cricket is the fact that people who don't or have never played cricket say it is the same thing as baseball. Cricket is a way better sport than baseball (in my opinion) especially the fact that the games can go on for days and the break for a snack in the middle (which is my favourite part lol)

Baseball and cricket have a few similarities, but besides these few, there is nothing in common between the two sports

For an "American", I'm an oddity in that I actually like cricket. Understandably, I suck at playing (not many opportunities for practice) - but there is this Indian physician at work who has promised to take me along coming summer to their practice sessions in town.

I kinda quit following it when the Hansie Cronje and the betting scandal erupted. A lot of people lost my respect when that happened.

I like the "gentleman's game" (heh! Consider the fact that I also love hockey :D)
It's hard to keep track here in the midwest (hell, it's hard to keep track of Hockey! )

Thanks for the updates Omega :)

Re: Cricket, lovely cricket......

England have brought in Monty Panesar and Sajid Mahmood for Ashley Giles and James Anderson for the third Test.

Australia made one change to the side that won the first two Tests, all-rounder Andrew Symonds replacing the now retired Damien Martyn.

A radio station just stated that Australia has won the toss, and has elected to bat...

Australia 1st Innings
244 all out (71.0 overs)

England 1st Innings
51 for 2 (14.0 overs)

This might put a smile on your face, Omega...;)

Sadly I can't see England getting back in the series after that final day fiasco in Adelaide......

But then again, I thought that wayyyy back in 1981......:D

oh dear Australia are in trouble! NO!

I just got this in an Email and I couldnt resist!!!...

No offence to all my English friends.;)

BILLY'S GAY DANCER DAD

Billy was at school this morning and the teacher asked all the children

what their fathers did for a living. All the typical answers came out,
fireman, policeman, salesman, chippy, captain of industry etc, but Billy was
being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his
father.

"My father is an exotic dancer in a gay club and takes off all his clothes
in front of other men. Sometimes if the offer is really
good, he'll go out with a man, rent a cheap hotel room and let them sleep
with him."

The teacher quickly set the other children some work and took little Billy
aside to ask him if that was really true.

"No" said Billy, "He plays cricket for England but I was just too
embarrassed to admit it."

None taken....

(What a year for sport..... )

I too, like Omega, would like to congratulate the Aussies on regaining the Ashes, hopefully the next time we meet the contest will be a more even balanced affair, which is what made the 2005 series so enthralling. Good to see Vaughn back, he was sorely missed. I am looking to the one dayers, the World Cup and the Test series against the West Indies now and can only hope that England show more spirit and determination.
