Re: A Cricketing thread???

Now there's no doubt that's some amazing mental strength but it was played on an absolute road against a very average attack.

Re: A Cricketing thread???

Yeh the pitch was an absolute road, great effort though, will not be beaten for some time i would say!

Maybe I should call my dad. I don't know how, but he's acutally capable of watching this boring sport from start to finish.

Just a quick run down for those not too sussed up on cricket.

England V Pakistan at the Oval Cricket ground in London. At around 2:30pm, Pakistan were bowling, England batting. Umpire Darrell Hair accused the Pakistan fielders of ball tampering. Basically meaning altering the condition of the ball to gain an unfair advantage over the opposition. His accusations were made without any apparent evidence, just a few marks on the ball that could have been made from simple ball on bat contact.

The tea break was taking early because the light was considered dangerous to be playing in, very cloudy day sadly in London. After tea the Pakistan players did not emerge from their dressing room, insulted after the cheating accusations. The Umpires made their way out with the English batsmen shortly after but no sign of the Pakistani players. The Umpires removed the bails from the stumps (a signal that the game is over or the session of play has ended). 10 minutes or so later the Pakistan team made their way onto the field but alone, a minute later they made there way back to the dressing room. No more action took place in the day.

This evening the Pakistan team conceded defeat, insulted and disgusted with Darrell Hair's actions earlier in the day.

On a last point Darrell Hair has previous with Asian teams, lets just say there are a few question marks over his view on non white people.

Boring to you, sir...

Moving on...a row over ball-tampering leads to Pakistan forfeiting the fourth Test against England after they were penalised and the match descending into chaos.

Test abandoned after ball dispute

D'oh!

Already gave this a thread of it's own as I thought it was worthy. Even if you don't like cricket this is a huge sporting story.

No probs - the mods can merge both threads (if we ask them nicely...:D )

Yes i saw this and was very interested and bewildered at what took place. I have never in my life seen a team refuse to walk out onto the field over the umpiring decision. I agree that Pakistan should have been upset about the decision made by Umpire Hair to change the ball, but i dont agree with their actions. I think they were childish and shows their lack of respect.

Wow really? Don't wanna be cynical but like I said in the original post Hair is not very liked in the cricketing world and many believe he should be nowhere near a test match.

He has no proof the ball was tampered with, so therefore he can't award the runs. He just assumed the ball had been tampered with. Pakistan were right to lodge a protest but took it a bit far.

However proving one is not a cheat and showing that is more important to a proud sporting nation than winning or losing a game.

I think the game itsel is just stupid and boring... the only game I find more boring is curling.

To be interesting to watch, asport as to be quite spectacular, i think. Like soccer is, like football is, like rugby is, like athletism is, like basket bal is, etc...
