Every now and again it isn't all that uncommon to see someone forget or accidentally skip a line of the Anthem, but as far as this trend in the last 10 or so years of people adding 1,000,000 extra notes to the anthem makes it sound terrible. Sing the fucking song like it was written. This is not "your" song, its the song of a nation. This nonsense of trying to "make the song your own," as "artists" are often times wont to do ruins the whole thing. This is not about you, or your musical "talents," its about singing the anthem and nothing more. It shouldn't be especially memorable, it should just "be."
This isn't 1983, this is not the Great Western Forum, and you sure as hell aren't Marvin Gaye. If you don't get the reference, Google it. It is the only example in history of an artist "owning" the anthem that even comes close to being acceptable, IMO.
