Comparing this pandemic to wartime is not compatible, saying their both stressful to society is pathetic - high societal stress, nice try, that term can be used to describe just about anything.
The point about this pandemic and this election is safety - that's the main point, having high stress is not a good enough reason not to hold elections, high stress isn't even a valid reason to get an absentee ballot.
Yeah, try harder to draw those lines better, any jackass or clown could do it. Oh oh oh let me use my educated voice liked you? It may do you well you fucking try hard.

So yesterday was Canada's first national holiday to reflect on their treatment of Indigenous people; a new federal holiday that was started this year in response to all the unmarked graves of children in residential schools.
But instead of participating in ceremonies & events commemorating the day, the PM of Canada spent the day on vacation at a multi-million $ cottage. He literally flew over Kamloops in the PM's jet, the place of the grim discover that started it all.
I mean, wow. This is wrong on so many levels.
Ouch. He's gonna feel that one for a while.

The optics of it makes it look bad for sure, but keep in mind that nobody has done more for Canada first Nations than Justin Trudeau - there wouldn't even be a holiday of it wasn't for Justin Trudeau.
Still, would it be more politically correct if he didn't take the day off, of course - but the day is a national holiday, people can do whatever they want on holidays, just like people can do whatever they want on Remembrance Day.
This guy is going to be Canada longest serving Prime Minister soon, I think it's fair to take it easy on the guy, considering all that he's done for minorities especially First Nations.

Agreed. Comparing people or groups of people to NAZIs is usually not a good idea. I hope all 3 of those fellas think before labeling people next time.
It really bugs me that there are people/govts even today who are worse than the Nazi's, but no one really makes the comparison with them. Usually because people who make Nazi comparisons aren't educated enough to know the difference, and those who live under these regimes aren't in a position to publicly make any comparisons.
But on topic, both justin and the opposition share the blame here for politicizing the issue. justin knows that the vast majority of Canadians are vaccinated and a good portion of them wouldn't mind seeing the hammer dropped on these protesters who he can blame for extending the pandemic. He scores points with his base and "looks strong" for taking action, even though in reality it's all for show.
On the other hand, the opposition saw this as a chance to capitalize on the hate. It's low hanging fruit and some members of the party even took selfies with the protesters to show their support. Anything that can generate animosity against justin is good for them. The problem is, the protesters don't even represent a majority of truckers, let alone Canadians, or Conservatives. Getting their support isn't going to win them any elections, even if it makes for a good news story. Worse, throwing in even a couple nazi flags, makes it easy to equate them to the US republican party, which is one comparison who really need to avoid.
At least, that's my two Canadian cents. I guess it's only worth .01 euro/USD with the exchange, so not worth too much.

I question whether they needed to invoke a national emergency for a localized protest, but it's nice to see some people get a crash course on how law & order actually works.
Globally speaking, it's interesting to see how a trucker protest triggers a national emergency in Canada, while in Ukraine, they finally declared a national emergency just days before a literal russian military invasion.

What kind of echo chamber to you have to be living in to not know how the rest of the country perceives you? Not that they are alone though - confirmation bias really gets anyone with strong political views in any direction thinking they have more support than reality.

But the one they caught alive had 59 previous convictions, was granted release in February, and by May, he was being sought by officials for violating the terms of his release. Makes you wonder why police weren't more vigilant in finding him. Did they just think he wasn't going to be a danger to the public?
Case in point, and sadly, court records indicate that seven years ago the accused attacked and stabbed one of the victims who was killed this weekend. I hope the family sues the parole board because clearly he should not have been released.
