Calzaghe - Hopkins : Post fight.

So... I'm Welsh, clearly I was cheering for the Welsh-Italian hybrid that is my local boy Joe. Luckily for me I realise that many of the fine folk that adorn these pages are American and so after listening to the biased views of my chums all day long I was hoping to get some feedback from the other side of the Atlantic?

Let rip ladies & gents.

my opinion? there was no winner. neither fighter showed anything that would constitute a win. :2 cents:

Thats actually my opinion too ;) I stayed up till 4:00 am to watch a drab fight, but ah well...

Will be good to see Roy Jones Jr come to Cardiff though :)

I havent seen the fight, but Im glad Calzaghe won, Ive heard it wasnt a great fight but from what Ive heard from the 4th to the 12th Calzaghe didnt lose a round.

the fight was ok, it was a hopkins style fight, counter-punching and grabbing. i'm american, but i was rooting for calzaghe cause i had a bet on him so i don't want this to be a national pride thing, BUT i will say i think 5 years ago hopkins takes the fight in either a knockout or a unaimous decision.

oh sorry for the double post... but i just wanna thank you Welsh for respecting our National Anthem. the mayweather hatton fight was a disgrace to all the booing english fans. i don't mind if u disagree with our countries policies but booing the anthem in our backyard is a touch much.

i had some national pride going but not for reasons of this fight.

how can they not respect it? the fight was held in america. lol

^ they didn't respect it by shouting "BOO" the whole time it was being sung. but the english don't hold a candle to my favorite the mexican's who decided to get a "bin laden" chant going during the US national anthem one time... that was just horrible on so many different levels.

if you dont mind me asking but why did you stay up so late for this fight? was it national pride or the because calzaghe hit the big time and got to fight in vegas? :D

i think they would fight in london if it is in the uk.

It would actually be a bit of national and local pride for me - I lived in newbridge up until last year so saw him out and about a fair bit, he's the local hero.

And to the fine gent who commented on the national anthem - can't agree more, the anthem should demand respect whosever it may be, can only shake my head at the hatton contingent who felt it necesarry to boo.

^ wow... i've never been called a fine gent before... jerkoff, asshole, dick-face, you know things of that nature... but never "fine gent". gotta say thanks!!

now i watched this fight again yesterday, and i LOVE the back and forths between calzaghe and his dad in the corner. there was one that was so funny, and just what a dad would say. it went something like:

Dad: "you're not throwing enough combinations"
Calzaghe: "he's holding me"
Dad: "HEY! i don't care what he's doing, i care what YOU'RE doing"

i dunno hearing that, i just thought it was great.

Yeah, enzo is a bit of a firecracker... even at the to pof professional sports, you can't backchat your old man!
