Burning oil rig sinks, setting stage for big spill

Y
You mean the capitalist fishermen?
Serously, you couldn't be more duplicitous and obfuscating, On the one hand you bash capitalism and then on the other, in order to make your political ends meet, you're concerned about the capitalist fishermen getting screwed.:dunno::confused:

I doubt many fishermen (or other tradesmen) see themselves as capitalists first if at all. Fishing is little more than a means to pay for their shelter, food, clothing, etc. I doubt seriously they are particularly philosophical about it beyond their ability to do it or not and that impact on their livelihood.

Where is Bobby Jindal in all of this? So much for the efficacy of state governments?

This disaster is showing the systemic failures of Big Business and Government. It does not surprise me that BP would be a sinister money-grubbing company in the face of a disaster they created. I hold them in little regard and have no doubt they will be crying to the American Tax Payer to fund their cleanup no matter what the fuck they say.

It shocks me that STATE AND FEDERAL GOVTs are not acting with more urgency.

If our State and Federal Gov'ts are nothing but puppets for Big Business....do we really have a stable nation anymore?

from what i've gathered from the news all of the oil dispersants are toxic and the one they've been using is one of the least toxic (mind you i don't know if there is an even less toxic one)

In my eyes in the future it should work like this : USA/govnmt : * So you want to drill in our coastal waters ? *
CEO (of BP, Exxon, Statoil, whatever ... ) * Yes * . USA : * Remind the oilspill april 2010, you have a masterplan + a plan B + a plan C to re-lock your drillhole within 24hrs. in case of emergency ? * CEO : * ....äheemmm, Sir , not yet ....but ... * USA : * Leave our coastal waters NOW ! *

And the same for all of em who are drilling ALREADY without knowing how to react in cases of disaster. BP should be completely removed out the mexican gulf because of being a liar and bullshit-teller from 1st minute on.

Being a fan of pro wrestling, the way I look at this un-fucking-believable disaster is that the federal government and BP were like tag-team partners. The regulators just bought the oil company's assurances about "no danger" so long as the money kept pouring in.

Since the disaster, Obama has been as effective as Bush was in dealing with Katrina. Both of them are like Nero, fiddling while Rome burned. Did the feds do absolutely everything they could possibly do to prevent the eco-genocide that has been carried out here? Not in my eyes. And Bobby Jindal seems to have more momentum at doing something than the feds, though I'm sure the state was every bit as back-slapping as the feds were toward the oil companies, so long as they thought there was a dollar flow coming from these wells.

Everytime I hear Obama or crew with their "We're going to keep our foot on BP's neck", I just think that's Obama-speak for "Attaboy, Brownie!" because the effect is the same.

A bunch of do-nothing money-grubbing incompetents, that's what these people are. And when the going gets rough, they show what they're made of - nothing useful, unfortunately.

Reporters of German TV-broadcaster N-tv wanted to talk about the situation with fishermen from Louisiana, but they could not.

One of the fishermen said, they´re NOT allowed to talk with the press, because they had to sign so to BP. Them fishermen are now engaged from BP to clean up the mess BP left to the coast.

He's ahead of the feds, it's just that he's restrained from acting in any capacity. I thought that a big government spectator such as yourself would have known about the limitations of a governor to act during such an everyday type occurrence like this? Seriously, Jindal can posture and all but I think that any politician other than the President would only get in the way on this day 38.
FWIW and for better or worse, Jindal is everywhere obama ''said'' the feds were and would be from day 1 but weren't, ''on it''.
All you have to do just google ''bobby gindal'' > news - and you can literally track Jindal's recent activities.

This is really something :

There's a potential solution to the Gulf oil spill that neither BP, nor the federal government, nor anyone — save a couple intuitive engineers — seems willing to try. As The Politics Blog reported on Tuesday in an interview with former Shell Oil president John Hofmeister, the untapped solution involves using empty supertankers to suck the spill off the surface, treat and discharge the contaminated water, and either salvage or destroy the slick.

The Saudis recovered 80% of their huge spill, why aren't we doing the same?
Again, on this Day 38!

Aside question - Why is BP ultimately responsible for this disaster when
the platform is a lease . . . Deeper pockets?:dunno:

Wait a minute. Ray Nagin and Kathleen Blanco were out front ahead of Dubya during Katrina....we all came to know their names and see them on the talk shows giving press conferences and such.

Jindal is hiding away while his state loses half its GDP on his watch? Here's the New Orleans paper. Another day with Jindal nowhere on the front page :dunno:

Probably because the platform company doesn't own the drilling rights? Don't worry though. Obama and all Gulf States better take ALL CORRUPT COMPANIES to court and take them down....

The poster had conveniently, selectively and inappropriately used the commercial fishermen as pawns in his game of further aggravating a situation that, well, frankly doesn't really need more aggravation.

Whether or not individual fishermen think of themselves as being capitalistic is of no consequence other than the fact that they bargain to get the best wholesale prices possible for their catch. Now, this might not be Wall St. banking, but the trade is a form of capitalism nonetheless, and I know how the aforementioned poster feels about capitalism. :crash:

I just don't have a lot of patience for duplicity sometimes. :D

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.YOU along with your Idol Sarah Palin have advovated "drill baby drill".NOW no one in thier right mind is saying that.Along with your there is no climate problem, americans should not conserve ideology (you know you have advocated the govt wants to deny "freedom" by making people drive more fuel effecient cars, new lightbulbs etc etc etc) your position on such subjects is now shown to be totally untenable.Like I said you and your kind (Palin) have some tough explaining to do and like her instead of stepping up and doing that you attack.

Your glass house has a lot of broken windows from the rocks I have thrown.

It's to the point of if you wanna know almost the exact wrong idea and position to have on anything all you have to do is come here and read Facetious posts,he always is on the idiot side of any issue.:1orglaugh

Anyone watching the Obama press conference? What do you think?

I think Helen Thomas is the biggest nitwit on the planet. I can't wait for O'Reilly to tear her a new asshole. :D

The guy behind her almost pissed himself laughing after she asked that question. :)

I didn't watch the press conference, and I don't know what she asked exactly, but I see Obama's refusal to bring our troops home and end our double occupations/democracy-building  as the greatest mistake he will ever make.

Think of all the money that we would have now to fight this oil disaster? Think about all the military personnel and equipment we could throw at this thing? We have nothing because we're still bogged down fighting useless, endless 'wars.'

It will look incredibly cynical and political if Obama declares "Mission Accomplished" in August and brings our troops home right before elections. It's too late for him. That's a typical Bush/Cheney tactic (use the military to win an election).

This oil disaster is now the greatest natural disaster in the history of our nation. He could've seized the opportunity to rally all Federal forces to stop this leak and begin the cleanup and instead he chose to adopt a very lawyerly approach of "wait and see what facts develop"

It's too late. He could've rallied the Gov't, kicked BP aside, been declared a hero and NOBODY would go against him in the coming election or on any policy item.

This could've been his knockout shot to the tea gaggers and the Conservatives.

It all could've started with him bringing home the troops from Day 1 of his administration....
