Re: 2010 Boxing discussion thread

Joey "Minnesota Ice" Abell to take on fat ass Chris Arreola this Friday on ESPN. I look to Ice to put Chris on ice after he knocks his fat ass into next month. Can't wait.

Re: 2010 Boxing discussion thread

Damn, tough break Scott

Re: 2010 Boxing discussion thread

If its any consolation, there's a trailer for the new Fight Night game that shows Arreola getting beat on by Mike Tyson

Re: 2010 Boxing discussion thread

Here's the trailer I was talking about

Khan, Judah to unify junior welterweight belts

Junior welterweight titleholders Amir Khan and Zab Judah will meet to unify their belts in one of the biggest fights of the summer on July 23 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Judah promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events told ESPN.com.

Duva said she made a deal with Golden Boy's Richard Schaefer, Khan's promoter, on Tuesday morning, a little more than a week after titleholder Timothy Bradley turned his back on a career-high payday of at least $1.4 million to face Khan.

Peterson vs Cayo, Joel Julio on Khan-Judah Undercard

Former WBO light-welterweight title challenger Lamont Peterson (28-1-1) will fight Victor Manuel Cayo (26-1) in an IBF 140-pound title eliminator on the undercard of the Amir Khan vs. Zab Judah two-belt unification bout, which takes place on July 23 in Las Vegas.*The*victor of*Peterson-Cayo*will be in line to square-off against the main event's winner.

Also being mentioned for the Khan-Judah undercard is welterweight contender Joel "Love Child" Julio (37-4, 31KOs).

Looking forward to Khan v Judah, I think Khan will take it and box smart.

"King" Kahn is one of the toughest SOBs I' ever seen. He is a tough kid. And Freddy Roach is his trainer.

He is certainly much improved under Roach, and most importantly he looks more comfortable at a higher weight class, at lightweight he was too weak and couldn't take a punch. Under Roach and Ariza (I heard he is back with him now) he has grown physically too, and the jump in weight has helped his core strength and chin. People here in the UK still think a huge puncher would take him out, though Maidana was supposed to be that guy and he got through it.

Khan and Judah is going to be sweet!!

Mayweather to fight Ortiz after year-plus layoff

Floyd Mayweather Jr., a former five-division champion and one of the top pound-for-pound stars of the era, will end a 16-month layoff when he challenges welterweight titlist Victor Ortiz on Sept. 17.

Details of the pay-per-view fight, including which network will handle it and the specific site, are being worked out, Golden Boy's Richard Schaefer, Ortiz's promoter, told ESPN.com.

Former 2-time champion Hernandez dead at 45

Genaro Hernandez, the genial two-time junior lightweight champion, lost his three-year battle with a rare form of cancer and died surrounded by his family at his home in Mission Viejo, Calif., on Tuesday. He was 45.

Hernandez, who fought professionally from 1984 to 1998, became a fan favorite, fighting regularly on Forum Boxing-promoted cards at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

Hernandez's crowning achievement came in 1991, when he traveled to France and stopped Frenchman Daniel Londas in the ninth round to win the vacant WBA 130-pound title.

The Mayweather-Ortiz matchup suprises me. I'm going to go with Ortiz in the upset here. I liken this to when Roy Jones started running out of guys to fight, and finally had to step in the ring with someone who could keep up in Tarver. Money has been fighting mainly older guys on their last leg for the past 2 years, and Ortiz is far from that. Ortiz has the speed and power to land more than one good blow on Money.

Ortiz got knocked down once (I think twice) in his last bout. Again, I don't see him beating Mosley, but it is a very intruiging match - one of the more intruiging matches I can remember in recent time.

Juan Diaz retires

His final fight was a L 12 against Juan Manuel Marquez. His first fight with Marquez was 2009's Fight of the Year. Aside from Marquez, Diaz has also fought Acelino Freitas, Paulie Malignaggi, Nate Campbell and Michael Katsidis

Juan Diaz career record

Yeah, but he got knocked down by the fighter in that division with the most punching power in Andre Berto. Berto has dropped pretty much everyone he'd been in the ring with at least once. It's because of this that Mayweather wanted no parts of Berto. Ortiz has proven that, if he is focused, he can land more than a few real good power shots and take a few as well. Money hasn't gotten in the ring with anyone on Ortiz's level right now in years, and if he, like RJJ, thinks he can just jump in the ring and win, well...

maybe he should talk to Roy about that.

I see the fight going to the cards. Of course like anything, anything can happen. But the way Mosely "boxes" and never really gets into scrums I see the fight going the length. :2 cents:
