Not dumb at all. In order to know someone (or some group) you have to have interaction with them, at least a little. That's why the NAACP demands that blacks are represented in certain sectors of our culture.

Any group is comprised of individuals...would you have all blacks look at all whites on the basis of what some whites have done against blacks?
Further, from what I know about the NAACP is it's an organization founded around the turn of the century by a group....most of whom were not black to address some of the real circumstances blacks faced post reconstruction.
Groups like the NAACP and agencies like the EEOC attempt to ensure that most companies who have any dealing with g'ment.....even down to the g'ment loan they are paying on...do not discriminate on the basis of race no matter what race.:2 cents:
In your small world it seems...you would have blacks deal with and respond to all whites on the basis of what some southern bigot perspective holds and does and all whites deal with blacks on the basis of some general, denigrated segment of their race as well. That is dumb...if not dumber.
I never said any of that. The correlation of the NAACP was just one example of a minority group that works in the "race" game. I don't really know who lobbies for racially exclusive groups at universities, employment quotas and so forth, but I believe the NAACP is one of them. Trust me, I live in the most diverse city in the entire country; I know all about diversity.
Of course you didn't ..you implied it. What else can be gleaned from your suggestion that someone needs to experience interaction with some other race.
What interaction is really necessary to know that irrespective of race, you treat every individual as an individual???
My reaction to a man operating a business wouldn't be the same as my interaction with some street thug no matter what the race. Duh.
The NAACP doesn't lobby for quotas as far as I know. They are an organization who's purpose is to help eliminate system issues which affect blacks....just like the JDL and Simon Weisnethal Center do for Jews and Asian groups do for Asians and Latino groups do for Latinos.

Exactly. I don't give a hoot what color a person is if/when I interact with them (and trust me, I am the minority in the city I'm in right now); it's about character. The racism shit is stupid; almost as stupid as people blaming someone as racist for even mentioning "race."
About the OP: I don't know what he was on about. Didn't make a bit of sense to me. But like every thread this one has devolved.
If that is the argument made by some...I suspect it would be for purposes of allowing ignorant people who tend to look at a group based on race as a collective instead of seeing (for themselves) they are individuals.
Your perspective on this point however, seemed to be inspired by some sense that the interaction is necessary to see how some people are as a group. I know you will backtrack off of that but...it's right there in black and white...or what ever race font/background you're using.:o

No. I suppose there's some truth in that the more interaction you have with any given group the more you are likely to empathize with them. I don't think it's necesary but I think there is truth in that. Isn't this obvious?
