Today, it is 'Gimme Shelter'... bbut really, from the mass of great songs from a band like the Rolling Stones, picking a single best song is impossible and futile, imho

I always sing emotional resuce to annoy the hell out of my parents because they are avid Stones fans. But Gimmer Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want are to of there best songs.

Crocodile Rock.

How the fuck did you forget "Paint it Black?"

I'm probably one of the few RS fans that never got all dick hard over 'Paint it black.' Maybe it's the whole 'Nam thing about it and me never having been a 'Nam ***, but it's just me.

The absolutely positively one and only correct answer to this question is........

Can't You Hear Me Knocking...

a distant second (though still outstanding) would be "Live With Me"

Amazing tune with its rawness but I've heard it so many times in 'Casino' I left it out of this poll, though undoubtedly it is one of the great songs in Rock history. I wonder what Keith Richards had his pedals set to to get that raw sound.

Tie: Gimme Shelter and Sympathy For The Devil

I chose "other." My favorite Rolling Stones song is a little more obscure. Its a song called "Memo From Turner," and, as far as I know the only place it is found is on the soundtrack for a 1970 movie called "Performance," in which Jagger played a character named Turner, one of the leading roles. Good movie, great song.

Out of the songs in the poll - Gimme Shelter
My favorite - Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)

Top 5

Monkey Man, Moonlight Mile, Bitch, Miss You and 2000 light years from home for a rare one.

Can't You Hear Me Knocking"

^This.

Personally, I fucking **** The Stones, but along with the previously mentioned song above,I do also like Paint It Black and Give Me Shelter. The rest of their **** could burn in the fiery bowels of hell, for all I care.

There are so many to choose from, but "Sympathy for the Devil" is the one for me. I loved that song, before I even learned to appreciate the Stones.

from the list my vote goes to Gimme Shelter

Amazing tune with its rawness but I've heard it so many times in 'Casino' I left it out of this poll, though undoubtedly it is one of the great songs in Rock history. I wonder what Keith Richards had his pedals set to to get that raw sound.

Keith's riff is great, but that's the case in so many of their songs. For me it's the lengthy (for its time) instrumental jam that makes this such a great song.
It also makes me wish The Stones had been less formulaic and allowed themselves to wing it that way a whole lot more often.

I chose Satisfaction.

I'm anticipating a grand thesis from Elwood.

First of all Scott; how can you have a list of Rolling Stones songs and not have any from their greatest album-and what could be argued to be the greatest rock-n-roll album of all time....otherwise known as "Exile On Main St." !?

Seriously; what the fuck!?

I can't pick any single one; they're that great; but if I can be allowed to pick a few, I would say the following:

"Sympathy For The Devil"- no one has topped the "rock singer as Satan" vibe since- not even Guns & Roses; or that ****** Glen Danzig-seriously; did anyone take him seriously?.......

"Honky Tonk Women"

"Gimmie Shelter"-a shapshot of an era if ever there was one...

"Casino Boogie"- random snippets of words that were turned into lyrics by laying out newspaper clippings on the floor of the house where they were recording-plus Keith plays bass on that one.

...and my absolute favorite: "Tumbling Dice".....got to roll me...

....more to come......

Some songs missed:

Under My Thumb, Paint It Black, The Under Assistant West Coast Promotional Man, Jumping Jack Flash, Midnight Rambler, Honky Tonk Women, Can't YTou Hear Me Knocking, Tits and Ass, Happy, Ventilator Blues, and lastly this song... which I've always liked because of Bill Wyman's bass playing. :)

On this version of the song you can actually hear it! :rofl2:
