can he field? are u fuckin' kidding me. he's already got multiple gold gloves

Winning a gold glove does not always mean that you are a great fielder. There is a big tilt towards a great hitter and a decent fielder getting the award. In the case of Pujols he is a very good fielder to go with his offensive numbers. Is he the best defensive first baseman, probably not, but his fielding is definitely not a weakness.

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
There's more to playing than just hitting. Hanley Ramirez is the best PLAYER on this list. There are better hitters on this list than him.

What must be kept in mind that while it's nice to be able to be good on defense, and that's a tremendous advantage to the people who are like that with the exception of pitchers, defensive ability is almost never as important as offensive ability. You can't treat fielding and hitting equally, because it isn't, at least not in terms of what helps a team win. It's almost always better to have a great hitter who is a bad fielder than it is a bad hitter who is a great fielder at even the defensive positions.

I'd have to go with Albert Pujols. Manny Ramirez, lol, no way is he one of the best in baseball right now.

I can understand all of the Mauer love going on and I would say that he is the "best" catcher in the game right now. With that being said, he might not be the best player on his own team. The Twins have a damn good lineup. Pujols changes the strategy of the game for the other team. As good as Mauer is he doesn't do that. "Pudge" could shut down the other teams running game just on reputation alone in his prime. Mauer is good behind the dish and he is slightly better with the bat but let's see how he does when his knees start to go away.

And as a Tigers fan it pains me to give any kind of credit to a Twin, White Sox or Indian. The Royals, are they even in the Majors anymore? Oops that's right the one team that the Tigers can never beat is the cellar dwellers.:o
