bare knuckle boxing or any type of self defense...

may seem odd, but im wondering if any of you are formally trained in any form of combat art... and if so, would be willing to share anything about it here... videos, stories, tips, anything...

i have a red belt in hapkido and tae kwon do. done a few years of those separately.

i really liked hapkido over tae kwon do. tkd is all show. ive used hapkido in real life a few times and come out looking good.

im also training in bokken (katana) currently.

im also teaching my ****** starting tomorrow. shes been enrolled in tang soo do and im gonna help her kick all their asses. get her a jump start between her classes.

I have never been formally trained in anything. Any knowledge that I have is from surviving bad situations. I have been in around 25-30 real fights in my life and of those I can only think of about 7 or 8 that were 1 on 1. When you have 4 or 5 guys jumping on you, you tend to learn some tactics pretty fast.

As far as advise goes in real life situations I have three general rules.

1. Avoid a fight if at all possible. Bullshit, lie, stall or whatever you have to do to not have to fight.
2. Stay calm. If you get emotional you will make bad decisions and it will cost you.
3. Have a basic knowledge of human anatomy. Punching someone in the mouth over and over is going to get you nowhere. Knees, nose and nuts will get you out much quicker.

Unless you are in a sanctioned competition there is usually no need to fight. I have been in exactly two fights in the last fifteen years and hopefully I never have another. Nobody wins a fight. The best you can hope for is to be the one with the least amount of damage taken.

I'm a 5th degree black belt in chow mein fu.

I grew up in the jungle, chasing monkeys and wrestling tigers. That's how real champs train.

Yes, I'm a master in CQC.

5 years of training in aikido. Aikido helped me in some situations where I had to fight but otherwise I remain calm and always alert

i agree about tkd. it was made to fight people on horseback... id love to learn bokken, but id lose a hand or something.

krav maga is magic. i learned the basics, but recently moved to slowly learning systema... i love it.

ive been trained in arnis. i like it... savat is badass. i wrote it off at first, until i got my ass handed to me by a guy with his hands tied.

if any of you guys dont know about catch wrestling, id recommend learning. its basically wrestling for dicks... i love it.
also wing chun will get you out of a tight spot. working the inside angles gives you an upper hand over most standup styles.

Kick Boxing when I was younger. Just enough to know how to properly punch, kick and not get hurt. I'd rather fight dirty than learn how to properly fight.

aikido is great. that and judo and hapkido are very realistic. they can actually help you in real situations.

thats why people use wooden swords. im using a cold steel blade. its amazingly tough plasticy ****. it can break a white oak bokken, crush bricks, all that. and you wont slice your own head off.
