Avatar Loses to The Hurt Locker

Will E Worm

Conspiracy...
Avatar lost the Best Picture Oscar Sunday to The Hurt Locker. Avatar filmmaker James Cameron also ceded the best director accolade to Locker director Kathryn Bigelow, who steered the Iraq War movie to the Academy Awards’ top honor.

The best picture award went to "The Hurt Locker,'' whose director, Kathryn Bigelow, became the first woman to take the best director prize.

The choice surely will leave the academy open to another round of charges that its tastes are hopelessly out of touch with rank-and-file moviegoers, since it ****** up the opportunity to give its top prize to "Avatar,'' a film that has made more than $2.5 billion worldwide.

Avatar Claims Highest Gross of All Time.

Hurt Locker about fifteen million.

Hollywood is out of touch with people because they are liberal elitists.

Good decision! Anyone who willingly paid to watch Avatar should be tasered and sent to Guantanamo.

Even better decision: Christoph Waltz

Crap decision: Foreign language film winner Argentina. What a cheesy mess! The French and German entries were much better.

So you wanted the anti-war, anti-corporations film to win?

That's odd, it's almost as if you're becoming quite the jolly liberal yourself there Willy. ;)

Definitely.

I didn't watch either film or the awards show.

But, the most popular movie and the highest grossing film should have won.

Hurt Locker is a propaganda film for military recruitment.

Bwah hahahahahahahaahhaahhahahahahah! Suck it Cameron, you giant douche! Avatar was such a stupid choice for a best movie contender. Horrible contrived story based upon Fern Gully, Dances with wolves, Pocahontas and Ftroop. Too much CGI and terrible acting. He made his billion, who cares if he didn't get a reach around?

Fantastic Mr. Fox was infinitely better than UP and should have won best animated feature.

But, the most popular movie and the highest grossing film should have won.

by that logic then, Patrick Nagel is the greatest artist of all time. of all time!

the "so called" masters didnt sell **** compared to him.

hmmmm, maybe mass consumption is not the measuring stick you think it is.

Has this ever been the case?

These awards are given to what the academy deems the "best" movie of the year? As I'm sure you are well aware, popularity does not equate superiority.

Even so, it's the Oscars who gives a ****.

But, the most popular movie and the highest grossing film should have won.

By this logic American Idol and Survivior are great TV shows. Guess what they're not. Popularity as a marker for quality is really dumb.

To be honest I wont lose ***** over either movie not winning anything now or in the future. Over rated and extremely over hyped both movies are. Avatar was an hour longer than it should have been. And The Hurt Locker just seemed like your typical crap we've come to expect from mainstream Hollywood. And anyway I am wary when it comes to female directors as it is and The Hurt Locker didn't do anything to resolve the issue I have with female directors.

What?!?

Avatar shouldn't have even been in the Best Film category. It should have been in the Best Animated Film category. & even then it should have lost because its a piece of ****. Fuck you Cameron!

I and I suspect many people don't care one jot.

Good to see a female director winning in a male dominated arena.

With that bit of ill-placed logic, Star Wars Episode 1 would have been named best movie of 1999, Armageddon 1998, and Premium Link Upgrade 1952.
I liked Avatar a lot, but I thought Hurt Locker was quite a bit better.

Way earlier in 2009, Kathryn Bigelow appeared on The Colbert Report to talk about The Hurt Locker.

James Cameron did not.

I rest my case.

Kathryn Bigelow is one hot older woman...:rubbel:

Hell YES. She looked DAMN good Sunday night...

The Hurt Locker deserved Best Picture. James Cameron deserved Best Director. :2 cents:

Oh, and can anyone else believe that Kathryn Bigelow not only directed this movie but also POINT BREAK?! Point Break -to- The Hurt Locker. That's one hell of an upgrade. :)

I like Point Break.
Now Blue Steel -to- The Hurt Locker. That's one hell of an upgrade. :)

Avatar=most overrated movie of all time. I'm glad it didn't win for best picture. It's a popcorn movie for the ****** and nothing more.
