The Original was good because I was young when it was on in the 70's. It used to be the last thing I was allowed to watch before I was packed off to bed.

TNG was also good as it was new when it hit the screens. Most of the characters was strong and well cast. Although I didn't like Ryker at first he grew on me as he mellowed. So revitalised the whole Star Trek brand.

DS9 might be my joint favourite. Quite a few people didn't like it as it was based on a space station. That wasn't moving around the galaxy. But it actually was on the doorstep of a wormhole that gave it a completely extra angle to work with. Not just stuck in one quadrant of space.

Voyager was the worst for me. When they added Jerri Ryan to try to boast rating and interest in it. You knew that they'd run out of ideas. I could list on one hand the episodes I actually remember and liked.

Enterprise is my other joint favourite. It was a completely fresh angle on the Star Trek brand. Something the viewer could relate to more, as it was set not to far into the future. Also they made mistakes like humans would. In Britain too this was the best viewed and liked since the early TNG. Even on the fifth and final series. Just such a pity Voyager destroyed the brand in many peoples eyes and gave this one no chance really.

So my vote would have been a joint DS9 and Enterprise.
But would like to scrub Voyager completely from memory, except Jeri Ryan that is :D

I don't agree with you about Voyager, but the rest of what you say is bang on!

As the proud owner of all the complete series (yes, I have all the box sets) I would have to say that my favorite was Enterprise. the problem with Enterprise was it never got to develop due to the pressures placed on the developers by the Network Execs.

Enterprise was just warming up when it was decided to end the series.

there was a damn hot chick in there vulcan I think she was.

Jolene Blalock

Ds9 all the way. The war storylines were great. It did get quite involved though so I understand how some people didn't get into it if they didn't catch all the episodes, the others were more standalone.

I have a hard time pinning down one as my favorite. The original series was exactly that original and formed the basis for everything that followed. TNG was definitely a step up in modeling and visuals, but I felt that many of the episodes were rehashes of the original.

DS9 was interesting to me because of the inclusion of the religious element which was noticeably absent in the first two series. The Dominion War was interesting also.

As for Voyager, I just didn't watch it. It never could grab my attention the way the other series did.

Enterprise was a great series IMHO, and I hate that it didn't catch on. Plus Jolene Blalock, 'nuff said. Some of the plot lines did get a little convoluted and required an extensive "Star Trek" background, but then again I'm a dork.

Just my musings

I still love the Original. I have all the Original Star Trek movies on video and I need to get them on DVD. Next Generation is great too but my fave has to be the original show. I remember watching the program while I was growing up, and I watch them on G4 now, and have a greater appreciation and understanding of what once went over my head.
You've also gotta love the "Star Trekkin" song.

I remember going to college and studying quantum mechanics, and TNG made it easier for me to understand such topic as relativity, infinity posibilities, alternate universes, etc. Picard is such an imposing leader with such captivating accent, the problem I had with TNG was their obsession with Sherlock Holmes and his nemesis. The story of Voyager was more linear since it focussed on a Federation Starship lost in the Deltra Quadrant unknown charts of this region to the Federation. For seven seasons they kept audiences captivated with their race back to the Alpha Quadrant, for that reason thats my favorite storyline. Have you guys also noticed how the camera was always position so that you could get a better view of Seven's boobs and after she walked away the camera somehow focussed on her tight butt? I hate the fact that Enterprise was cancelled so early, it seems like TV these days you have to either have a CSI, Law and Order, Lost, Heroes, etc to make it interesting if it doesn't measured to those shows it gets cancelled. I just miss surfing through the television at night and not seeing a new Star Trek show, I do hope they make another one.

Well it seems like the nostalgia of TOS is making it number one, after all they are part of pop culture and I might start some reactions by saying this but I believe that their motion pictures rival those of Star Wars.

Remeber Kirk is returning to the big screen on Christmas Day 2008!

Really? Doing what Priceline negotiator?..Actually I hate how TOS crew has been passing away, its life but still that sucks. I hope that Kirk is back as we can see death In the Star Trek Universe is relative.

Nope. J.J. Abrams( The creator of Lost, Alias, and Producer of the Mission Impossible movies) is now in charge of The Star Trek Franchise, and he co-written, producing, and Directing Star Trek 11. It turns out he is a major fan, and went to Paramount and asked to take over the Trek reigns from the stepping down Rick Berman.

And from what it sounds like, this movie will take place during the Original 5 year mission of TOS, with the characters all being recast. The plot is all strictly rumor though. The only hard fact Abrams will admit to is that Kirk will be in the movie. Both Shatner and Nemoy have been briefed by Abrams about this movie, and they both give it their thumbs up.

it will be interesting to see how they involve him in the movie

trek is based on a hopeful future for humankind in THIS galaxy. wars is a sci-fi fantasy taking place "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away". that means none of the laws of physics, none of the science, etc. that we know here apply to that universe. therefore, it is pure idiocy to try and compare them.
just my:2 cents:

Total Gross of 6 Star Wars films - $2.18 Billion

Total Gross of 10 Star Trek films - $627 Million

The audience for Star Trek is not as wide as it is for Star Wars because has a wider appeal because of its soap opera type structure (Space Opera is the correct term) while Star Trek is more scientific, based slightly closer in reality. That doesn't mean Trek isn't as good, it's just different, and both franchises have their strengths and weaknesses, as a fan of both, I can recognize and appreciate the differences between them. It's the fanboys who endlessly debate which is better that pisses me off...grow up already

Lets see if I were to think about a great Space Sci Fi movie It would be Star Wars. Now if I were to think about another great Space based motion picture that perharps has six or more movies and that did really good in the theatres..it would have to be Star Trek. Can we really think about other movies that rivals those of Star War? For those who said that is "idiocy" perharps we should compare Battlestar Galactica...wait they did not have a major motion picture, so thats out of the picture..then maybe Serenety? The Cronicles of Riddick? Buck Rogers?, nah I don't think any of those although great Sci Fi not quite enough to rival Star Wars. It matters not how much money they make at the box office, if we were to base on how much money can Star Wars make then no on would want to produce Star Trek or any other type of Sci Fi Space movie. Sure one of them is based in a galaxy far away and that long time ago bullshit thing ans the other is based on the future of Earth were science is almost a religion versus the belief in the dualism of the force. Just as much as Star Wars inspired people to look up to the stars, to think about the existence of other civilization, so did Star Trek so their contribution to pop culture and society in general is equally comparable. Idiocy is the word used by "purist" or "fan boys" that find that Star Wars can't be compared or rival by another movie, these are the same people who debate if Lord Of The Rings is better than Star Wars. My friend to think that Star Trek Movies does not rival the Star Wars movies is dealing in absolutes and that is idiocy at is finest.

I always liked "Next Generation" for the characters and stories. I'm much more of a star wars fan than Star Trek, though.

But if I had to pick a favorite Star Trek, it would actually be "Galaxy Quest", which isn't actually star trek, but could have been, for all intents and purposes.

"By Grabthar's Hammer.... what a savings."

I went with TOS. It is the only one that I have seen every episode of. I think it helps that it had a short run on TV as most of the other shows got pretty tired before they were done.
