Best star trek series

The 2 best STAR TREK tv series were the original 79 episodes with Jim Kirk as the captain of the enterprise and STAR TREK the next generation. The other series like voyager and deep space nine and the motion pictures I am sure were favorites of some but between only STAR TREK (the original series) and STAR TREK- The Next Generation which is best.

In my opinion both were excellent !!!

I agree. All those other spin offs were just diminishing the greatness of the first two.

Those two are the best, but I thought the 4th season of Enterprise did a good job of fleshing out the early history of the Federation. The first two seasons sucked, and the third was meh.

It's not even a question, for me. That anyone thinks it is, always makes me wonder what's going on, as though I'm the butt of a joke that everybody else is playing on me.

The original show was remarkably consistent in the three series of its run and Next Gen took a while to really find its feet, but the character development over the course of its 7 years in production created an amazing ensemble piece which stands as my favourite TV show of all time, produced my favourite Trek antagonists of all time (Q, The Borg) and most of my favourite Trek episodes of all time. Even going beyond the seven core cast members - Picard, Riker, Data, Troi, Worf, Geordi, Bev - there is loads of value from minor recurring characters like Barclay, Lwaxana, Guinan and Lore, some fantastic one-offs like Legacy and Yesterday's Enterprise, and some truly mind-bending science fiction ideas. Episodes like Clues, Allegiance, Cause & Effect, Conundrum, The Game and others where things aren't quite right or there is a mystery to be solved, are super fun. The build from Q Who to the eventual confrontation with the Borg is slow-build at its finest. The never-ending threat of the Romulans coming to fuck things up. The humour, the pathos, the subtle social commentary. It's a staggering show from I would say series 3 right up until the end. Some of the best episodes moved me in a way that few shows ever have, and I could have cried when the bastard writers... well, did what they did, at the end of Nemesis.

Not saying there wasn't some value in DS9 and Voyager, but neither had the charm or depth of Next Gen. Although I'd probably consider Dax and Tom Paris for my "ultimate dream crew." Paris was such a rogue.

Incidentally, were you the poster known as "startrekdude" that asked whether we thought Kirk, Picard or Janeway was the best captain of the Enterprise? Ooops. Wonder what happened to that guy.

I'll stand by Star Trek: Enterprise until the die I die. TOS is above all comparison. TNG was great but they made it a bit too clean and neat. They especially missed out with what Wesley Crusher could have done for them. DS9 and Voyager were excellent, although killing Jadzia and disembarking Neelix were where you knew both shows were wrapping things up.

Enterprise was the best of all, except the aforementioned, sacred TOS. It got back to basics. It got up in the Vulcan's faces. It paid more attention to the adult audience. I liked every single season.

Something that annoyed me about TNG is encapsulated at the end of First Contact. "Hey guys, remember the all-important deflector dish that we just destroyed with phaser rifles? Go ahead and configure it for freakin' time travel." "Sure Cap, give me a half hour." Sorry, but shit was a bit too easy and convenient on the Enterprise-D.

I just remembered another reason I liked Next Gen most - unlike several of the other series, it didn't try and make me like a major Vulcan character. I'm with Sela on this one : I thought the Vulcans were pricks. Having said that, I don't know if I'd like T'Pol, I've never watched Enterprise. God knows why, since I like Scott Bakula (star of the only other contender for Stiffy's favourite show ever, Quantum Leap). I should sort that out, really.

That's more than fair. First Contact was pretty shoddy in that respect, from start to finish. (Pedant alert - by First Contact they were now running the NCC 1701 E. ;))

"If the past has been changed and Earth assimilated, why do we still exist??"
"Well Sir, I span my internal technobabble Wheel of Fortune and it landed on.... Temporal Wake. Does that fly?"
"Yeah, Temporal Wake. Let's run with that."

To steal a line from South Park, it was pretty "crab people" at times in that regard. But that's the thing about Sci-Fi, it's all so much bollocks, sometimes you have to try and not let waning suspension of disbelief re : the Sci get in the way of appreciating the stories, i.e. the Fi.

 That's awesome and exactly what I was getting at.

Dude, you've never seen Enterprise??? What are you waiting for? It's superb. You work hard, you owe it to yourself. And guess what? Every once in a while, a phaser or torpedo misses. No, seriously. It appears that, once upon a time in space, you didn't just push a button and finish your Pina Colada.

TOS, TNG and Enterprise are all on the same level for me, but for different reasons. DS9 and Voyager, while still great in their own right, aren't on the same level. I loved the fact that Enterprise came before The Original Series, and for the same reasons already mentioned. The Next Generation and Enterprise are unique in that they were cast so well that even when the writers fucked up, the cast was still able to pull it off. Far and away, The Star Trek franchise is my favorite scifi.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
I've never seen Voyager or DS9. I liked the original series and the movies that it spawned. But I think my favorite series (which I just watched in some weekly marathons over the past 6 months) is TNG. I also liked Enterprise... mainly because it was more adult - although some of T'Pol's sexual frustration was a bit overblown/over-played. IMO, TNG was more well rounded and interesting. And Data was my favorite character from all the series and movies.

I was answering your question - which was posted as AN OPEN QUESTION TO OTHER POSTERS, on-topic. And I was also talking about Next Gen, one of your picks. Which is completely different to you trolling my attempt at creativity, in your previously banned account.

Still, well done at outing yourself as a previously banned member. You fucking moron.

DS9 was the best IMO. Once that third season started, it found it's legs. TNG was great too but it kinda went up and down a lot without any ongoing story and it could have easily gone for three more seasons with ties to DS9. Doing Generations was A HUGE mistake for the franchise because they never should have done a "passing-the-torch" film and killing Kirk was a big "FUCK YOU YOU FUCKING FUCKFACE FANBOY FUCKERS!" to the legions of TOS fans. Even the people who made the decision with great enthusiasm completely regret it to this day. Enterprise would have gotten great once the Romulan War got going at the end of the fifth season but the network interfered too much and killed the show.
