Ask an American...

We may be able to trace the origins of "Americana" (baseball, apple pie, burgers) to elsewhere and we may have based our country on "English stuff" the reality is when we won the "Revolution" we became America and we began the process of "tweaking" things so that they were "our own."

America may have not invented things, but, for a long time, we made them better than anyone else. Ford cars, computers, rock music, film...etc.

America will return to greatness when we get back to taking pride in making stuff. We seem to have decided other countries should make our stuff and they should make it cheaper both in quality and cost. THis is actually not a good consumer philosophy for our country anymore....

Cause some lost Spanish funded Italian guy named Columbus stumbled upon it and then it was on.:dunno:

Yep in 1492. He was born in Italy and discovered the US shipping under Italian flag.

Years later, the Dutch came and founded "New Amsterdam", I believe you US-citizens call it New York.;)

^That one didn't turn out the way we thought it would. We didn't find any WMD there either, I suppose.

The way "we" thought it would??????

Who is this "we"?

It's not like we Americans all get together and decide when and where to go to war.

America goes to war when it's absolutely necessary (e.g. WWII), or, whenever we have a retarded President in office (e.g. G.W.Bush and LBJ).

You could say that about most everything! O.K... you win. BASEBALL began here. Just like basketball and tackle football and Twinkies. The point is that practically all we know has its origins elsewhere. That's all.

Ha, it's funny cause none of those are American. Mercy!

Question for the American: Why is the NFL so big down there? It's like a religion to some people. Same with NASCAR to an extent...

Do the Americans think someone should start an "ask a dutch person..." thread on the freeones board?

Yeah, go for it, why not? I think it's a good idea. :2 cents:

(just do a search though, and make sure one doesn't exist already....I don't think one does.....)

As Twinkies have been mentioned already, I'd like to ask: what exactly is a Twinky? A candy bar, small cake, powerbar, something similar? Ding-Dongs as well. And what about English muffins? Why don't we have them in England? :wave2:

Why are Americans addicted to large cars ?(ahem, Automobiles)..

I mean, here in the UK we do have large capacity engines, but they're not really the norm.

It seems that every American car you see, is like 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 litres and has to be a V6 / V8 etc..

Also they seem to be physically big cars.. not like, say, the 'Mini' over here.

why, why, WHY..?

I don't know, they are a waste of gas, but fun as hell to drive. I love my truck.....feels like a tank on the road. Niiiiiiiiice and safe.

As Twinkies have been mentioned already, I'd like to ask: what exactly is a Twinky?

Finger style golden sponge cake with a vanilla cream filling.

Ding-Dongs as well.

Hockey puck shaped chocolate covered cake with cream filling.

It's our way of compensating for comparatively small genetalia :)
