Anyone old enough to remember when Rap Music was good?

I'm old enough to remember when it all started....and I'm still waiting for it to be anything but useless, plagiarized crap, that "samples" other musicians hard work and creativity, digitally manipulate it, and talk over it, in a pathetic attempt to convey how pimping, and dealing, and hatred of police is the way young black ******** should view the world.

Wow, you're really not listening to the right rap music, then.

I can only tolerate rap music as a motivational tool when I'm working out or running. Listening to arbitrarily aggressive music outside of those contexts never made any sense to me...

If you think new music of any genre isn't as "good" as music in the past, you're just ignorant.

"Nothing is as good as the stuff I grew up with." - The battle cry of someone getting old and can't/won't accept change.

See, this is the problem. That's what everyone thinks rap music is, but there is plenty of good, non-agressive rap.

However, I appreciate the sentiment in what you say. If all one does is consume angry, aggressive, adversarial music all day long, it's going to have an impact on the type of person you are.

Most of my playlists have things like Enya, The Bangles, Disturbed and Marilyn Manson all mixed together. What kind of impact is listening to that all day long going to have...?

Make you a twisted individual.

There's proof of this...

I'm similar, though. I go from Bach to the Violent Femmes to Stravinsky to Maps & Atlases to...
Yeah, it's fun.

I've never been a huge fan of rap/hip hop music and older rap songs I remember were worse than new ones... some rap/hip hop songs have had ok melodic part and there are couple okayis songs, but rap/hip hop is mostly trash below other genres. the best rap/hip hop music I've ever heard have been always more of parody songs made by comedians or some singers using joke lyrics rather than some gangsta rap...

That's like telling me, I'm not getting the right kind of venereal disease...as if there WAS a good one. Sorry dude, but I would rather have ice picks shoved in my ear holes.

I want to push Kanye West off of a cliff. After I kick him in the shins. The fact that he goes by Yeezus and has come out and said that his job is comparable to soldiers in a war or a police officer makes him unworthy to remain in existence. And he can take his idiot wife with him too.

Why would you exert yourself like that, when it only takes 3 pounds of pressure to squeeze a trigger, and less then a dollar a piece for the rounds....

Exactly and ppl who criticize the music fail to realize that. People who dislike rap music don't really understand the culture so it's totally ***** to them especially if curse words is being used on a track. So they automatically judge and criticize the music and say stuff like "Rap is violent, it's pornographic, it's racist, it's crap, why do they wear their pants down to their knees and act like monkeys on stage?" Blah blah blah. Right? People who dislike rap music don't even listen to the music or respect the art or even know how the music all started. There is so many genres in the music of hip hop/rap (Not just gangster rap ppl so easily criticize) and today a lot of successful rap artists work with other music artists who aren't even associated with rap or hip hop. It's respecting the art of music, learning from different artists, learing and growing amongst themselves and keeping the music alive. Good or bad hip hop/rap music is universal.
