Do these restauranteurs have conditions like these in their homes or is their disregard for sanitation reserved for the paying customers?

I worked at a restaurant in Omaha run by Iranians. Beautiful building and a little overpriced. I witnessed the owner and manager place items bussed off tables placed onto plates heading to the dining room. They made an effort to rid the property of vermin and pests but the traps were never disposed of after they caught a rat or mouse.

I guess its a cautionary tale. Know how your favorite restaurant operates.

There are several. Sometimes its lack of communication. I.e. the lack of English skills. Inattentive staff, bad public perception or sometimes the menu items are just a little too unusual. So yes, another reason.

One of the biggest reasons I never go to restaurants other than the cost and the fact the food is usually unhealthy is because you never know what they are doing to the food.

True, but you could say the same about any food you buy in a supermarket.
Best not to think about it & just eat up!

There was a popular Chinese restaurant near the local supermarket here a few years back that got busted because there were too many cockroaches running around.

Chinese restaurants don't lack customers but whenever they close it's usually for health issues.

Jesus, it's not like the mice skeletons were found in somebody's food. They were found in mouse traps that were placed in the boiler room.

I've worked at two fast food places and in short I've seen some of the disgusting things, but it's not enough to not make me want to eat fast food again. One place was an ice cream shop and we'd end up not having enough people, so that when we got busy we would go ahead and take a dish, dump it in the cleaning solution, shake it to get some of the cleaning solution off, dump it in the sanitizer, dry it off, and go back to using it. That is one place that I haven't eaten at since I left.
