The woman went through a lot in the last few months of her life, i believe some compassion is needed. She didn't exactly die with dignity.
Plus, thinking of that poor baby and what a messed up life she is pretty much guaranteed to have...
:2 cents:
Hi Dave,
I've dedicated most of my healthcare career towards fixing up kids.
What you described elicits "empathy", but no compassion for the woman. I won't presume that "her baby will have a messed up life". I know the 'usual' end results of "presumptions"; especially with 'children'.
As far as
"i believe some compassion is needed. She didn't exactly die with dignity."
One can NEVER "die" with dignity. One can live ones life with dignity.
There is no real "dignity" in death.
And by the way: Why does "Anna Nicole Smith" deserve our "compassion and sympathy" but not Ms. Rodricks who just passed away last night at my hospital leaving three orphaned children? Or how about empathy for the 16 year old who was ejected from the sun roof of her friends brand new car but will never walk again seeing that she has no legs left? How about compassion for the 12 year old who wants to be taken off the ventilator and be allowed to die because he is sick and tired of fighting cancer and living in constant pain but can't because his parents aren't ready yet?
Dave,
Anna Nichole Smith - despite her bad choices in life; has died.
Please don't expect me to feel depressed/saddened/hurt/moved by her death than the one of little Ryan Dworkin all of 6 days old who died because we couldn't move him to a more specialty ICU for kids from our rural hospital because of bad weather.
I don't know Anna Nicloe Smith.
And I really don't care if I know her or not.
She had a baby and just died. I feel bad for a kid who won't know it's own mother as it's growing up.
Beyond that - it's just hype and hullaballoo to me. I don't think, nor agree that Anna Nicole Smith deserves any more compassion that little Ryan Dworkin.
cheers,
