An Etiquette Question... #3

You're at a party. You, a friend, and some strangers are playing cards. Your friend is doing spectacularly well, everyone else at the table is steadily losing their shirt. As the game progresses you notice that your friend is cheating. You call them aside and confront them with what you know. They admit to it, and offer to cut you in on their winnings.

Do you walk away from the game and let the strangers fend for themselves? Tell everyone your friend is cheating? Stay silent and take the cut they've offered you? Go and punch beers until you **** because playing silly little games is for ********?

What do you do? What do you do...?

Are you sure this isn't an ethics question? No matter, as soon as I noticed my friend cheating I wouldn't call them aside and confront them, I would excuse myself from the game, find some party food and watch the shenanigans. You got to know when to fold 'em, and anyone playing past their limit is a fool and probably deserves to be hustled.

I wasn't playing cards at a party last night, but I DID ***** **** until I *****. Now I'm hungover. :(

Are there lawyers at this game?

Personally in this situation I'd be incredibly conflicted. I don't think I could expose my friend's cheating, since I'm perhaps loyal to a fault. However I also can't easily accept someone taking advantage of others, and that would weigh on my conscience. Thus I imagine I might simply walk away from the game when it occurred, but later I have a feeling I'd end up in a serious argument with my friend. This is a situations where, no matter what I did, I don't think I'd be happy with it.

It's that too. Etiquette really just covers the rules for proper behavior, so it's quite broad and tends to dip into ethics territory quite a bit.

Are there lawyers at this game?

Well, in your case there'd at least be you.

If there's money involved, dudes don't cheat other dudes at card games. Man law. If you want to cheat at cards, go to a casino and take their money.

I would walk away. I don't want a cut of the money, but I'm not going to call him out. If he gets caught, he's on his own.

So if he ends up in a fight, outnumbered, you wouldn't help?

I wouldn't pull my friend aside at all. I'd probably be the type to blurt it out in front of everyone, then said friend would either be kicked out of the game, or we'd keep playing while everyone gave him the stink eye. At least it'd mix things up a bit and make the game more interesting.

I thought the money involved was what was supposed to make the game more interesting... though I'm not really much of a gambler. I've bought into games before, but that was just to play cards, never really expected to see that money again (and when I won the winnings were usually spent buying people drinks...).

I've never played a game that involved money. It's mostly been ******** games, or if it's poker, we just play for fun, with or without poker chips.

Normally I wouldn't play for money. Like I said, I'm not a gambler. There's a bar I sometimes go to that has a game that runs there though, and there's a buy in. I like to play so sometimes I buy in just for the fun of it. I always write the money off the second it's out of my pocket though. I think that's why I tend to buy rounds when I win, don't want to walk away with the cash and start thinking that ******** is a great idea... I know someone who has problem there and dropped over 20G one night chasing his loses. :dunno:

I have a group of buddies that rotate card games at our houses. It's just some good food and *****. Shits and giggles. We are playing quarters so no large stakes are involved. To find out that someone was cheating at any of our card games would be a total *********. We are all friends so it would be very easy to toss his ass out. He is a fucking thief and not welcomed. If he cheated now then he did it before. This time he got caught.

With the scenario presented I would handle it like this. Tell that fucker to start losing all of that money back. The money isn't the issue. We are all playing the game to risk and reward on even terms. If I caught him once, I'll catch him again and expose him.

Briana Lee is a different story. When she comes to our games she makes showing her titties a sort of side bet. She does this on 1 on 1 situations when a pair is on the board. She represents a full house and has some of us pushing money into the pot to call her bluff and see titties. She's a good card player but I know when she's going to use that move. She's going to have at least trips or the 2 pair high hand when she does this. Still those horny fuckers bet and she rakes in their cash. Sure she has been caught a few times and her titties came out but not often. Hey, it brings guys and their money and food to the game. The problem I still have with her is when I send the leftover food home and she is the only one not to bring my Tupperware back. Come on sweetheart, do the right thing. Let me have my plastic back.

If the fucker was cheating, he'd stop being my friend in a hurry. And yes, I'd call him on it at the table.

There is a Texas state law that makes it permissible to use deadly ***** against anyone caught cheating at cards where money is involved. And yes, I would rat him out immediately. No true friend would cheat his supposed friend and still be considered his friend in my book.

And a bit of this.

Don't really know how I would act. Sure is he's an asshole for cheating. Maybe I would make him admit it infront of the other guys and give them their money back. :dunno:

No, I'm not helping him. Why would I jump in? I have no quarrel with the other players.

Dude knew the risks when he cheated. Everyone needs an ass beating occasionally to remind them of how **** works in the world. If you try to cheat people at cards whilst playing for money, you deserved to get punched in the face when they catch you.

This is an implausible hypothetical anyway. I don't ******. I wouldn't even be at the table to begin with. And my friends who do ****** have enough integrity and self respect that they wouldn't try and cheat people out of their money.

If he was really your friend, he'd tell you his game before you all started playing cards and I'd go along with it.

If he gets caught, you get his back. Wtf is wrong with some of you? My friend would have to do something pretty heinous for me to not have his back, like hitting a woman or something. Cheating some shmucks at a card game is fair play. If you're losing and can't figure out luck isn't on your side or you're being had, good on you.

Not much different than a pool hustle. You fall for the hustle, don't stick around to see if things swing in your favor. Take the small loss before it turns to a big one.
