Am I the only one who thinks MMA is bullshit?

A year ago they were airing UFC MMA on mynine (prefix my = fucking stupid).

It sounded interesting. Martial arts? Fighting? Sounds pretty cool.

Then I watched it. It was stupid.

I decided to give it another chance and watched another game. As stupid as the first.

Then I was doing my homework while watching the game, stupid.

What the hell is this shit? They call this mixed martial arts? It's just two guys in a ring beating the crap out of each other. Where's all that shit they learned in this supposed "submission wrestling" and "taekwondo" and so fourth? Where is all the grappling, holds, strikes, that define martial arts? Every single god damn fight is one where the guy resorts to getting the opponent on the floor then pummeling away.

What also pisses me off is that a guy could get his ass beat for like 5 minutes straight, then all of a sudden lose to a submission.

And what's even sadder is that I see plenty of guys my age (early 20s) getting into this bullshit.

Anyone else feel similarly to me?

Well, I agree that the "my" prefix truly is fucking stupid. But as far as MMA being bullshit? That crazy talk. I didn't like it at first, actually took me awhile to get into it. To understand the complexity, and understand what some of these guys go through. You don't have to like it. I don't like chicks with super HUGE boobs, but that's ok, I don't need to, free4440273 will like them for me. So now, I will like MMA for you...till you learn to appreciate it.

i thought you were on to something with your title but...

All you're saying is there's no martial arts involved in MMA. How do you know that. Do you know what Martial Arts is. And if somebody wins by submission even though he got his ass beat, that's called a comeback. The loser should've kept kicking his ass

I think you watch too many Kung Fu movies or single style fights. MMA has very few restrictions in terms of what you can do and absolutely no restrictions on style aside from whats competitive. The sport develops (like a lot of other sports) in a certain direction and it may change when someone else comes around with a better formula. But you can't expect to be looking for a Kung Fu movie or even a single martial art tournament in MMA competition. Also, last time I checked, many of the martial arts are based around submissions as much as they are based around striking. Actually for the most part, aside from the demonstrations, they encourage submission rather than actually striking.

Wow, you really don't know much about the sport as you admitted. Its not a game first of all. You ask were is all the skill they have learned, even if its two guys having a "slugfest" it requires a lot of skill and training to be able to strike with these guys. When one guy is dominating a fight and then gets caught in a submission its due to making a single mistake. This sport requires so much dedication its more of a lifestyle. Do yourself a favor and find a gym around you that trains MMA and go for a workout and I promise you will respect the sport.

I hate to break it to you but that's usually what happens in real life fights. The stuff that happens in movies is just that, stuff that happens in movies. If you expected it to be like a Bruce Lee movie then yes you would be sorely disappointed. If two guys got into a fight in a bar, for example, and assuming weapons aren't involved and one of them didn't knock the other out quickly that's about what would happen also even if they both knew martial arts. I don't know what to tell you except sometimes things in life just aren't as glamorous as people think they will be. If somebody meet somebody else on the street and a fight broke out what is one person supposed to say, "wait hold on a minute why I do some fancy martial arts move I have prepared even though I know you can just tackle me and beat the shit out of me right away to win".

I agree with D-rock. Real fights are messy, and usually end up in wildly flailing limbs. Even world title boxing matches often end up that way. I always assumed the UFC to be a kind of "do what you have to do to win" sport and I think it has lived up to that.

A lot of the guys are trained in martial arts, and they use a lot of martial arts techniques.... but other times it just comes down to brawling.

There was a period where I was somewhat into it, but I've really lost interest. I used to be a huge wrestling fan though, so I might watch Brock Lesnar's debut fight in the UFC.

i've been a fan for like 10 years. to say it's bullshit is one of the most ignorant statements i've ever heard.
watch a sakuraba fight, or carols newton, minotauro, yves edwards, emalianeko, etc.
i just named bigger names, but you guys get the point.
sure, some guys go in there trying to knock the other guys head off, others play it like a chess match. it is extremely technical. and pummeling your opponent while you're in the advantageous position? of course you do that! have you ever been in a fight? thats how fights go.
MMA isn't boxing or some single art competition. it's fighting. and it's not glamorous scripted WWF, TNA or whatever else those soap operas are called.
i liked the earlier post about "evolution". too true, too true.

Super Noob...I agree with you. MMA is totally overhyped and will be forgotten in 3 years.

The only mildly interesting MMA match I ever saw was something on ESPN a couple of years ago...Ernesto Hoost vs Bob Sapp. It was basically kickboxing.

MMA is benefiting from the worst Boxing climate in hmm...80 years. If there were any stars in Boxing, MMA would be fading.

I don't discount the physicality of MMA. I simply discount the excitement factor.

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
I will NEVER take away the fact that the people in MMA fighting train hard...really hard. The thing that sucks for these guys (and girls) is the fact that any "Joe Blow" off the street can land one good punch and make them lose the fight. It sucks, but it's the reality of situation. Dedicating your whole life to one "form" of fighting doesn't make you a badass. Sorry, but that's the truth.

Hitting a guy on the ground isn't a sport. This will get banned or get further neutered.

^what the fuck are you talking about :bigear::turnturn:

I think it's more that before there wasn't big MMA events people could watch. As soon as there was people began to look at boxing are realized,...it kind of sucked, especially compared to MMA. Boxing is an art form like Floyd Mayweather Jr. said, and that's the problem. It's a game. It's not fighting. To me there is too much that is artificial and fake about boxing. People want to see real fighting. In a real street brawl most boxers would get their asses handed to them by the MMA guys. MMA is fighting, or at least as close as we can get to it short of having gladiators fighting in a coliseum. Once I saw MMA I knew then I would never be able to watch boxing ever again the same way. It just doesn't have the same impact.

You were watching K-1 which is strictly kickboxing. Everyone one here needs to go watch this fight- Karo Parisyan vs Nick Diaz, please!

knows petras secret: she farted.
the fact of the matter is, unless you are familiar with the techniques and fighting styles used, it just looks like people rolling around on each other and swinging wildly.

my ex feels the same way "like 2 dogs fighting."

the truth is, yeah you think mixed martial arts and you think karate kid.

truth is, you cannot fight like the karate kid and win real fights. when it comes down to it, u end up using the principles of all styles and techniques you know with what comes naturally as a defense and you end up with what u see on mma/ufc fights.

martial arts is a discipline more than a solid style of fighting that you only use and nothing else.

when you get familiar with the ground fighting (jiu-jitsu) you will see its very calculated and systematic. often referred to as a "chess game." its true. it is a chess game. but to the untrained eye, you see guys with other guys' legs wrapped around the other. looks gay? well yeah, but u know what, its fucking brilliant and it works in real life, and in real fights.

give it a few watches and try not to let joe rogan ruin it for you, the guy is a complete fucking moron but the fighters are great and the organization is pretty awesome.

the more u watch it, the more you'll see the complexity of whats going on, and sometimes youll see some really nice technique reminisant of the martial arts you think of. take karo parisyan. omg. beautiful and exciting judo throws.
