A question about Socialism/Communism

They will say the same about capitalism soon. Very soon. . .

Really? :surprise:

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

True communism exists only on paper. When it was applied to the real world it failed because of human nature.

The system it fostered was inept, incompetent, corrupt, unable to adapt, cumbersome, wasteful, and brutal. A security apparatus was installed to enforce obedience, and those who dare speak out against the State were jailed or knocked off. No protest was allowed unless you wanted the Interior Ministry troops to crack heads and make mass arrests.
Communism could never compete with Capitalism. Capitalism allows for the individual to choose, to rise up on their own merit. Communism doesn't.
My mother and father had a hell of a time living in Belgrade Yugoslavia in 1965. Both were followed, my father had his phone tapped and mail opened. He was set up by UDBA on a few occassions and accused of working for the CIA.

Communism = insatiable paranoia

Those who wish for Communism have never lived under it's suffocating rule. It was a beastly retarded system.

"Communism" under the Soviets isn't actually real Communism. No country has ever realized a true Communist style of life because to do so meant there had to be no outside threats; which there is in a country called America.

I knew when I read the title of this thread that I could bet my life there would be "Americans are ignorant" posts within it even though the question itself has nothing to do with us. I am not at all surprised since it it obviously a favorite pastime of what seems to be a good majority of the members here.

No matter what Capitalism has always been ahead of Communism.

If you have a beef with the system which you live under, then do something instead of whining about it. I take it when you make money you love capitalism or do you adore Communism. You like biting the hand that feeds you.

Jeez stop bitchin' and moaning about a system that has done more for you than Communism ever would have.:horse:

Yes! and the real kick in the dick is they no nothing themselves, little more than their newspapers tell them.

boring!!!!!!!!!

The truth usually is boring. :dunno:

What truth?

You're only 28. The Cold War was practically over by the time you were born so I don't expect you to actually know much about the real difference between a Democratic Capitalist society and the Authoritarian Planned Economy Crapfest that was Communism.

I'm sure it's fashionable to be against "The Machine" or "The System" and wear Che Guevara T-shirts made in China and all that fun stuff but Communism was a real "Machine", an absolute abomination that jailed, murdered, and tortured it's own people for speaking out or protesting against the system.

Likewise, considering you are an American who lived through the Cold War, I don't expect you to know much more about Communism than the stereotypical Cold War American views you have already displayed in this thread. Of course Soviet/Chinese Communism was a "machine", but that's not what Communism is supposed to be. And I don't wear Che Guevara shirts. My shirt has Lenin on it. He has a party hat on. Mao is passed out on the couch. :)

I am trying to being forthright here, but socialism has never been what it promised to be.... its the money/encentive equation. They try to provide but too many people get hurt, cause the all for one, one for all bullshit.

That's pretty much what I am trying to say. There is a huge difference between what Communism is supposed to be and what was realized under the Soviets/Chinese/Cubans/etc.

Western Europe in the Seventies/Eighties was closer to textbook socialism than anything that happened behind the Iron Curtain. I can't imagine anyone being scared by Denmark. :dunno:

^^^^Well maybee the U.S should have pulled out before the CCCP dissolved and let all the socialist have an orgy of sorts

why don't you just say "true communism never really existed..." But those assholes sure did try.

Fundamentally, communism isn't a terrible idea. The problem with communism is that the best thing about it is also the worst...

All citizens are treated equally.

From an idealistic viewpoint, that is great. In real world practice it doesn't work because it gives people no incentive to excel at anything.

You could be the head of an oil company or a janitor and you get paid (and treated) the same. You aren't going to get a raise, a nicer house, a promotion or anything else... If there is no incentive to be better at anything, it's human nature to just do the minimum to get the job done.
