99% of modern sports cars, any cars, can kiss my....

Hey, AFA, can you please tell us what that sweet car is you attached in post #7???

Porsche GT3 is a good car that gives you true performance. However one can argue the real Porsche's stopped after 1999. Now they come with cup holders. :)

Yes, I agree the GT3 is proper. (Stripped down and more back to the basics.)

But, I think too that 911s died when they stopped being air cooled. (Switzerland plays a significant role in that with their insane "noise standards".)

That fat, bloated, giant tub of a car? That apparently costs not miles away from 1/2 a million dollars?

Let's be honest: calling the Maybach a bloated, giant tub of a car displays a huge lack of class. Any person with a fine taste for exquisite automobiles (not cars, automobiles) will find the Maybach a dream.

I'd take a Z06 'Vette at 1/4 the price and blow the doors off that thing you own

You must be kidding. I am a mediocre driver, but I am confident a good driver would have no difficulty beating you in the 62S if you were driving the Z06. Despite being over 6000 pounds, your Corvette only beats the 62S by a few milliseconds (only .6 seconds to be exact - this being the C6 generation, and automatic at that).

How you could not respect a car of this massive size, as well as providing more options and features than your Corvette could ever have, while still being able to beat it in a race, is beyond me. When you add it all up, there's no comparison. You're getting the best of both worlds by getting a Maybach: power and luxury. I must show respect for the Z06 being less than $100, 000. But if you have that much money, you may as well go with an S-class.

I respect very much that you can buy a car like that. I don't respect it or your automotive taste that you did buy a car like that.

Oh, you're giving me way too much credit. I refer to it as my automobile, because it is mine, but only in dreams. I'll be sure to own one one day, though.

By the way, put way your dislike for Maybachs, and give them an honest evaluation. You'll be blown away (check out the special options - almost anything you could ask for you can have - try doing this with a Corvette). I would take a Maybach over a Rolls Royce as well. You can tell from my post I have a preference for luxury cars.

The recent Corvettes, though not my cup 'o tea, put the European competition to utter shame in performance vs. price. The 'Vette competes, and is tested with, cars costing up to twice as much.

European marques used to belittle the American cars (and attitudes) because of their (USs) old fashioned "there's no substitute for cubic inches". Yet, still the European designed engines have grown and grown over the years.

I'm a Pony car fan, and a muscle car fan, in the sense of going in a straight line, or wearing a muscle t and cruising around town.... But, they're really not sports cars and never really have been. I mean even the latest Mustang, with it's aggressive (albeit amateurish) styling and brutal engine, still went El Cheapo on the suspension...

I think that the Japanese, whom I've always respected as car makers, are really holding their own line on lightweight, small displacement, fun to drive and inexpensive to own sports cars.

I've owned many tiny cars, but the Mustang is one of the most uncomfortable cars I've ever been in, (worst was a Tiberion), although it must be an advertising gem for Ford that people feel they will become sporty or fashionable.

Funny you mention the (Hyundai) Tiburon (that's what you meant, right?), as I think the 2003-2004 era Tiburons (not sure what they look like the last few years, as I've been in a Hyundai-free country) were one of the most attractively-styled sports cars in the sub-Porsche price category. I don't know anything about their performance, but I thought they really looked nice.

ford might be american, but holden is more american now than ever.holden buy v8 engines in a crate from the us.the first falcons shipped here were from the us but they soon found them not up to aussie conditions and they soon made them more australian.the us ford bosses didnt even want ford aus to make a 4 door GT,but look at the success of the GT and GTHO :)

ford buy parts and build engines here as the ones from the us dont suit what ford wanted.the ford 6 is totally australian, its not used anywhere else in the world.(until 2010 when ford do source engines from overseas so they can financially be more competetive with gmh) rip the awesome aussie 6.

and yes, i love jim beam cans.

australian ford/holden debate will wage on forever lol  its a good debate over a few drinks with mats too :glugglug:

and how good was the ford 1,2 and 3 finish at Bathurst :)

corvettes are for bitches. if you want the engine just get an SS camaro.

I have owned 4 Camaros ('76 Type LT, '79 Z/28, '84 L69 5 spd. Z/28 and an '87 IROC), 1 Firebird ('87 5 spd. Formula) and 3 'Vettes ('87 conv., '91 Z/R1, '94 conv. with 440 horsepower motor - all manual trans. - off course).
Never has a Camaro been built that didn't have live axle rear ends. And centre of gravity and weight distribution? Forget it. NO stock Camaro can handle as well as any comparable year stock 'Vette.
And speed/acceleration? Chevrolet always reserved their top horsepower drivetrains (except a couple dozen ZL/1 Camaros) for the 'Vettes. And since the 'Vettes were lighter, no reasonably comparable stock Camaro can stay with a stock 'Vette; either on the drag strip or on the track.
None.
I loved the Camaro's I owned (all at different times, of course). But collectors and teenagers and drag strip lovers own Camaros. Men, collectors and true drivers/racers own manual 'Vettes.

Maybach 62S - 0-60 m.p.h. 5.2 seconds.
Top speed - electronically limited to about 155 m.p.h.

2008 Corvette Z06 - 0-60 m.p.h. 4 seconds
Top speed - 190 m.p.h.

The Maybach is a nice car. But at 4 times the price of the Corvette? sorry; I think it's bloated and insanely priced (not that the 'Vette is cheap).

That website mentions the speed in kilometers per hour. It says zero to 100 km/h, which is 62 miles per our. Caranddriver.com says the Maybach 62S is zero to 60 in 4.9 seconds.

2008 Corvette Z06 - 0-60 m.p.h. 4 seconds

That's impressive, but that appears to be a modified car with automatic transmission. Still, when it comes down to it, taking weight into account, the Corvette will beat the Maybach 62S. I would still like it to try the 57, though.

You can't compare the two, because I've said one comes with a lot more than the other. It's somewhat like comparing a house and a shack (the Corvette). Sure, the Corvette is better in one way, but in every other way, the 62S wins.
