Two men fighting for lives after bloody 49ers-Raiders game violence

Two men are fighting for their lives after one was savagely beaten in a Candlestick Park bathroom during the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders exhibition game and another was shot several times after the game in a double shooting in the parking lot.

A 24-year-old man, who was wearing an "(Expletive) the Niners" T-shirt, was shot two to four times in the stomach before driving his truck to Gate A and stumbling to security, said San Francisco police Sgt. Frank Harrell. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital in critical condition.

Another man in his 20s was shot near Lot V about 20 minutes earlier and had superficial face injuries, Harrell said, and was taken to the same hospital. The first shooting happened shortly after 8 p.m., about 15 minutes after the game ended.

"We are treating it as separate shootings, but we believe they are related," Harrell said.

Police pulled a man off a party bus before it left the parking lot and are calling him a suspect. He was wearing an Oakland Raiders jersey, Harrell said. All three men attended the game, he said.

In the fourth quarter, around 7:15 p.m., a 26-year-old San Rafael man was assaulted and knocked unconscious in an upper level men's restroom, said Sgt. Michael Andraychak. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, he said.

Sports hooligans. ;)

Super serial.

This is the type of stuff that makes it tough to be an NFL fan. Why would you care that much if someone wore a t-shirt like that?

I'm from Northern California and its a stupid fucking rivalry by two groups of fans that are living in the past!

And no i'm not a fan of either, i'm a Rams fan and can't wait foe them to get back to L.A. where they belong!!

Holy shit! You mean I'm not the only L.A. Rams fan left in the world???!!! Last I heard, we were dropping faster than WWI veterans.

why would you care so much about an exhibition game?

Or about the Raiders or Niners in the first place... :dunno:

Or about Football in general? C'mon guys, it's a boring fucking sport and all of you are living in the past. 30 seconds of huddle for a 5 second play? Yeah, that's macho. Primadonna asshole wide receivers making more in 5 years than I'll make in my life?

If I was a billionaire TV mogul I'd expand X-Games and similar formats, find a channel to show them on Sundays, and start whittling away at the NFLs fan base.

Let's watch real atheletes for a change.

Hardly anybody takes the X-Games seriously though, and the small niche that does take them seriously would be watching them anyway. The NFL is king in this country when it comes to pro sports, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. The closest thing to them (ratings-wise) is NASCAR, and I would assume that their ratings drop once football season starts (since most races are held on Sunday afternoons). I have never looked into that information, but that's what I would imagine. NASCAR, NBA, MLB, and NHL can't touch the NFL in terms of overall popularity. Sure, the NBA has become more culturally relevant in recent years, but I can't ever see it becoming "America's game." The X-Games don't stand a chance.

As sick as it may sound, the stories in Mr. Worm's original post tell it all. Football fans take their sport seriously. Maybe not as seriously as soccer fans, but the bad blood created by football is enough that it creates fights, family drama and other crap like that.

Everything you say is true. I still think that the NFL is a subtle form of brainwashing. People get conditioned to watch it and they don't dare swim against the tide.

Taking the X-Games seriously? That's an interesting way of putting it. I don't know how seriously I take it, it's just waaay more entertaining to watch. The individual events require more of a gut-check (moto-cross pole vaulting? What twisted genius invented this?), and you don't get Terrell Owens types or that Keyshawn whatever-his-last-name-is types.

One thing I tell every prospective girlfriend that comes along is, I will do whatever she wants to do on Superbowl Sunday.......even if it means watching the Superbowl. :dunno:

The X Games are awesome, but it lacks the fan connection/loyalty other pro sports have. I love BMX, but you'll never see me repping Jay Miron year round. Which brings me to my next point. X Games, like the Olympics, is a bunch of sports nobody cares about the other 11 and a half months of the year.

And calling guys on a dirtbike "real athletes" is ridiculous. They've got bigger balls than the rest of the population, but they aren't even on the same planet as NFLers when it comes to athleticism.

Legzman

what the fuck you lookin at?
Lame. Here I was thinking this was something like last boyscout type violence..****nnin down the field and shootin the defenders. That would be an interesting story!

Well, there will always be a world-wide tussle over what is and isn't a sport and who are/aren't "real" athletes. While I like a good threadjacking as much as the next guy, I'll leave it alone. :angels:

Why would you care that much if someone wore a t-shirt like that?
I sure as hell wouldn't, but I think that it has to do with ignorance, excessive pre game drinking, a gang like mentality that identifies with particular teams and a high percentage of a blue collar workforce who find themselves w/out a job and little hope for the future... it's a dangerous tonic!
