do not believe the rumors about Navarro, since the Jays biggest need is in the bullpen and the Tigers can not help them there. V-Mart got the best possible news 4-6 weeks recovery time.

The Detroit Tigers announced Tuesday that designated hitter Victor Martinez underwent successful medial menisectomy surgery on his left knee.

It's expected that Martinez will start rehab immediately and resume full baseball activities in 4-to-6 weeks.

"We are very happy the surgery went well and that Victor will be ready to compete for the start of the 2015 season," said Tigers president, CEO and general manager David Dombrowski.

Martinez was injured in an offseason workout. It was the second significant knee injury he has sustained working out in the offseason in his career. He missed the entire 2012 season due to an ACL tear suffered during January of that year. The Tigers re-signed Martinez to a four-year, $68 million contract after the 2014 season that saw him set career highs with 32 home runs, a .335 batting average, .409 on-base percentage and .565 slugging percentage.

Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine would disagree with all...sorry, I couldn't finish that sentence in good conscience.

A-Rod is having a pretty good spring so far. He's getting the bat on the ball. He might still have it.

Not that the Yankees will be playing in October, but A-Rod usually looks good until then. Phenomenal talent, but it is still March.

If the Redbirds stay healthy, they should be the favorite to win the NL Central. I think Wong may eventually become the #2 hitter and Heyward will end up as #6 but we'll have to see how things pan out. The bench should be much better this year from a power standpoint with Reynolds and Grichuk both serious power threats that we didn't have fo rmost of last year. The pitching looks stout, both starting and relief, with plenty of depth with perpetually-injured Jaime Garcia waiting to come off the 15-day DL and lefty Marco Gonzalez tuning up his act in Memphis. The overall team speed is better so we should steal more bases this year. The big concern is power....Holliday is 35 years old now and his HR numbers are slipping. If Heyward, Peralta, Adams, Wong and Holliday all can hit between 15-20 jacks apiece we should be OK but that's a big "if". Regardless, I don't see anyone ready to take the division away from them this year although I think Pittsburgh and the Cubs may present a bit of a challenge with the Reds and Brewers being dark-horses. It all starts on Sunday night at Wrigley! Can't wait!
