2015 MLB Thread

Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said Friday that the club will not re-sign Torii Hunter who averaged .295, with 17 homers and 83 RBI’s over his last two seasons in Detroit. Torii may have lost a step or two in the outfield, but the guy can still hit and he’s a positive influence in the clubhouse. His sound leadership skill’s is reason enough to resign him. Chalk this one up to another bone head move by the Tigers GM. The Tigers need another outfielder, their two top prospects in the minors (Steven Moya and Tyler Collins) are still works in progress. They both have a chance to be good players one day, but 2015 seems too early.

With a desperate need to find an outfielder with some power look for Detroit to pursue Melky Cabrera age-30 (.301 BA, 16 homers, 73 RBI’s) who is seeking 3-years at $50 million.

Wishing Torii Hunter all the best.

Love this thread! I'm a NY Jets fan. I can't wait for pitchers and catchers!

i think Stanton's signing could be good initially for the Marlins, especially since he gets no raise the first year, if they follow through and put players around him.
i think the Blue Jays signing of Russell Martin could pay off huge
the Cardinals Gave up Shelby Miller for one year of Jason Hayward i'm not sure i would have done that but they needed a right fielder and he's a good one

It won't likely be a one-year rental. We need a permanent replacement to make up for the tragic loss of Oscar Taveras. They'll make every effort to resign him and have a very good record of keeping the players they want to keep. They won't overpay to keep him, however, so I'm sure Mozeliak is working on a contingency plan. In the meantime, our outfield is set for next season.

Rumors.

Phillies are looking to make a deal with the Red Sox for Cole Hamels, Plus most likely Jon Lester will return.

Fellar can you clear this up?

i've heard a lot of teams have backed away from Hamels because the Phillies are demanding way to much for him
Jon Lester has the Braves,Cubs,Royals and Jays all interested so Boston's going to have to offer more than 6 years and $120 million

At that price let him go. That's a lot of weight for a pitcher that only won more than 16 games once.

I'm all for the players getting paid, but it's getting out of hand. The Stanton deal is sheer lunacy. And I agree with Bob's statement. ^^^

The Stanton deal is really for 5 years as he can opt out at 30.
as long as folks pay the ticket prices and the tv money keeps coming in you will see these crazy contracts

Here come the big checkbooks as usual. Boston set to Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez to big deals.

Now watch Sandoval balloon up to about 300 lbs. while Ramirez spends the entire season on the DL. :1orglaugh

Adam LaRoche signs a 2 year with the White Sox

A power bat to protect Abreu, but BA is nothing to gloat about.

Sox are also looking to sign Melky Cabrera meaning we can trade Tank (Daynan Viciedo). Also Alexei Ramirez is in talks by GM Hahn with the Dodgers for either Crawford, Either, or Kemp. If Kemp the Dodgers will have too include some cash.

I'm getting antsy for news out of Baltimore. Nothing yet.

Lose Markakis. Keep Cruz (but only if the money is right) and Wieters. Plan to only play Machado when the field is dry. Buy some pitching (not that I have any significant problems with their lineup). Sacrifice power for OBP and run prevention.

*Now if I can just get Buck on the phone.

Sandoval will play third base for Boston, but where does that leave Ramirez? He's spent the majority of his career at shortstop, but has also played some third base. The Red Sox, though, have one of the more talented young players in baseball in Xander Bogaerts playing short.

The thought is that Ramirez will play left field, a position he's never played in his 10-year big league career. A team may be able to get away with stashing someone in left at a normal ballpark, but do you really want to have Ramirez battling that Green Monster 81 times a year? Oh and Yoenis Cespedes plays there already.

Looks like the Sox are going to be happy winning a bunch of games 11-10. As long as they are competitive, I will be happy. tough to care last year when they were out of it by August 1.

yeup Hanley is in left and Cespedes is now trade bait as are bradley jr, nava, craig and middlebrooks. expect Boston to make deals at the winter meetings starting DEC 8th

Oakland trades 3B Josh Donaldson to Toronto for 3B Brett Lawrie & prospects.

Donaldson will give the Jays a huge upgrade at 3B. He moves from Oakland where fly balls go to die to the homer dome of the Rogers Center. His 29 homers last year could easily be 35 in Toronto. Downside for Donaldson is the fuckin' turf. Real grass is scheduled to be installed by 2018 at the Rogers Center.

Lawrie has a huge upside. He is a plus defender (maybe the best in the AL) but injuries have really hurt his career. He's only played in about 60% of his games since 2011 when he came up.

Call this a win for the Jays. The top 5 in their line up of Reyes, Martin, Bautista, Encarnacion, Donaldson is a good as any in baseball.

Glad to see the trading season has opened up.
