Max Scherzer attempts to become the majors' first 14- game winner on Monday when the Detroit Tigers begin a four-game set with the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Scherzer won his fifth straight decision on Wednesday against Chicago.

Anibal Sanchez tossed seven scoreless innings and Victor Martinez added a three-run home run in support, as the Detroit Tigers finished a three-game series sweep over the Colorado Rockies with a 4-0 win. Sanchez (8-5) allowed only two hits and no walks, while striking out a season- high 12 batters, improving his record to 4-0 against the Rockies in five career starts.

Dude....no offense meant and I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that we all really appreciate your contributions here lately but just FYI it is customary to cite your source when quoting directly from an article or publication. Any of us can read the newspaper....we'd rather hear your comments in your words. If you are going to quote from a source, give the original author credit like this:

Again, no offense meant....you still qualify for noob status so....:dunno:

By the way, this upcoming road trip should define the rest of the season for the Tigers. They'll either slide back to the pack a bit or will have a 7 or 8 game lead IMO.

In some instances I wish my Mets would simply suck and listen to the games crying in my beer. No, they don't do that. 8 of 10 at home before the break then a .500 long road trip. Come home to play more .500 ball. That's not how we pick up games in this league. The next 10 are against 6 Wash and 4 Philly, division games. 6-4 won't mean jack shit. 4 with the pitiful Cubs THAT ALREADY BEAT US 3 FUCKING TIMES. Next to last in BA, Slugging, and Total bases. The pitching can come out and match up with anyone but let's get the bat on the ball. Murphy has been doing a great job but then he puts a glove on and cue the circus music.

Seems like the Mets are always running in place. Been that way for a few years now.

Here's where my (false?) hope comes in. 90 wins and you are in. That's .555 ball. Only the Dodgers are above that mark right now. Add the extra wildcard. and 87 wins gets in. We need to see some 2 of 3 series down the stretch. 3 of 4 from the Phillies and Cubs. They've got a stretch where they face Philly, Cin, Col, and Miami. With balls to the wall they've got to sweep one of them and do a 9-3. They got rid of their batting coach and noticeably picked up but Wright has to come out of his slump. The front office went on vacation for the trading deadline but if they can string together a run maybe, MAYBE they can pick up something off the scrap heap for late September.

And by the way, Get your fucking Cards moving and blast through the rest of the season. You've got a ton of division games left and they all stand in the way of us. That's our best hope for help.

I'd love to tell you that your request will come to pass but I fear we just don't have enough hitting to get it done. Our only hope is that the starting rotation with the recent addition of Masterson and "Scumball" Lackey will get us through 7 innings on a regular basis so we can use Neshek and Rosenthal to close things out. If that happens, we'll be hard to beat but it sure would help if we could find some hitting.

Max Scherzer looking for his 14th victory came up a couple of runs short against the Yankees last night,
New York 2, the Tigers 1.

Perhaps it was Justin Verlander’s girlfriend (Kate Upton) seated behind the Tigers dugout who had the lads distracted.

Note to Justin: Keep Kate away from the Tigers dugout.

David Price will make his Tigers debut to night against the Bronx Bombers. Hiroki Kuroda is scheduled to pitch for New York.

Holy shit....for the second time in a week the Cardinals come back from being a run down after 6 innings to win against the Red Sox last night, 3-2. Jon Jay got a clutch single to drive in A.J. Piezynski (who sure had a shit-eating grin on his face when he scored the winning run against the team that just cut him)in the bottom of the 8th to put us in front for the first time in the game. Matheny needs to just plug Jay in as the starting CF every day and good things will happen. Pat Neshek, despite his poor performance in the all-star game, is possibly the most valuable pitcher in the NL who isn't named Kershaw with a 5-0 record and a 0.78 ERA (the best of any pitcher in the major leagues!), was overpowering against the hapless BoSox batters in the 8th as he struck out the side on only 13 pitches. If Matheny doesn't overwork both he and Rosenthal (I would hope to see Siegrist and Motte used in the late innings when we are ahead by more than 4 runs to give those guys a rest once in a while), you simply aren't going to beat us if you are trailing after 7 innings. Maintaining a pattern of low scoring games where we can take a lead going in late is the only way we have a chance to make the playoffs this year.

So....Matheny rests Neshek but puts Rosenthal on the hill for the 4th consecutive game to hold the game tied at 1 into the top of the 9th and....you guessed it....he pissed it away and we lost 2-1.

This is a managerial-mistake trend that has repeated itself a number of times this season. Why couldn't he have gone to Siegrist or even Choate for once? I mean, for Christ's sake it wasn't even a save opportunity! Damn....Matheny manages like he's reading the instructions from a manual. "OK, let's see....9th inning, must put in closer".

Note the time of this post. The Mets tied the Nats in the 7th and we are into the 11th in a bullpen war. Need this fucking game to 2-1 the Nats before heading into Philly for 4. Take 3 there and we get the Nats at home for 3 more. With the Mets hope always gets outweighed by what the Mets do best, find new ways to lose a game.

Ugh! Y'all lost in the bottom of the 13th on a walk-offf homer by Bryce Fucking Harper....time to reach for a significant source of alcohol. :drunk:

Yep  I really don't like "by the book" managers. Show me a little instinct, creativity and feel for the game and your roster, please. The years Joe Torre coached the Dodgers I don't think he ever made a single "outside the box" decision. As one for instance, no matter how many times closer Jonathan Broxton was ineffective in back to back outings Torre kept trotting him out in those situations, over and over, year after year. Drove me nuts lol

I liked Torre as a person and a motivator, but sheesh he was like an automaton when it came to managerial decisions.

Nice win by the Rebbirds last night as Kolten Wong drilled 2 HRs for us....a rare achievement for this team. Man, that kid is strong! He's going to be some kind of hitter as he matures....great talent for us at 2B. We face the O's tonight at Camden Yards for a weekend series that should be a great matchup. I just hope we can get lucky and take 2 out of 3 but I fear just the opposite.

Yep  I really don't like "by the book" managers.

Then you ought to just love Donnie Baseball. Now there's a dude that makes some decisions that are downright head-scratchers! :surprise:

That's cause Donnie Baseball is a player at heart, he's just another dude they made manager cause he was a popular player.

Joe Torre taking him along for the move from NY to LA looked like a favor to the Yanks PR. Kind of like how they jumped Jeter's pay for this season from 9M to 12M for the last year of his contract.

True but he wasn't popular in LA. If they wanted to go that course, they would have made Kirk Gibson the manager. I find the way Mattingly handles his pitching staff to be of particular curiosity.

The great pitcher, Satchel Paige once said “Don’t look back something might be gaining on you.”

On July 21st the Kansas City Royals were 48-50, 8 games behind my Tigers, after the Tigers 19 inning loss to the Blue Jays Sunday, and the Royals win over the Giants, Kansas City is just ½ game out of first place in the AL Central. And that’s not all the news the Tigers have. Sunday, Joakim Soria and Anibal Sanchez were both placed on the 15-day disabled list. Sanchez is expected to be lost for 3 to 4 weeks, with Soria gone for longer than the minimum 15 days. Coupled with the teams current hitting slump, the Tigers pennant chances are quickly diminishing.

It’s time to turn things around in Detroit. In the next few weeks we will see how good my Detroit Tigers really are.

Alright Jagger, Are you ready to beat down the fish for me? Then your next 13 games should give you 10 more wins. That includes 2 of 3 from Pitt and Cinncy. The Brewers are no better than .500 for that stretch.

Well until or unless your Mets can stop blowing big leads and giving walk-off wins to lousy teams like the Phillies it really won't matter what my Cardinals do. Oh wait, I forgot....you hate the Brewers for some unknown but most-appreciated reason. OK, I'll play but I would be hard pressed to think we'll win 10 out of the next 13. If we do, we'll be in great shape. Still can't believe that, as bad as we have been so far this year, we're only 2 games out of first. The O's cleaned out clock 2 out of 3 over the weekend and we're still the lead dog in the WC race. Ridiculous. I'll do what I can to make your prognostication come true, Bob. Problem is, I really have nothing to do with it. LOL....death to the fish!! It starts tonight with Shelby Miller on the hill for the birds in Miami.

Sorry Jagg, I'm putting it all on you and The Cards.

7 of the last 8 walk-offs are Mets hanging their heads. Can we sweep a fucking series? The D Backs and Fish. 5 other sweeps all lost in games by 1 run. After last night those Mets could walk out of Philly with a split tonight (thanks guys). My hate for the Brewers comes from Bud Selig. That scumbag was a part of the collusion thing. Sold his interest to his daughter, moved them to the NL and gets a share of every ticket regardless of home field. This guy set the field for making money without spending it with revenue sharing. Welfare for owners. Develop some players and ship them off when arbitration or free agency comes due. Yea they are in a small market but the Fish and Oakland, and Minnesota have flags hanging since Robin Yount retired.
