Outside of the fact soccer has a lot of luck involved in it I think you're right, we usually suck at sports we care about equally with the rest of the world. That's why the rest of the world has so many more Olympic gold medals than us, especially the UK.

Ghana has only scored two goals in this tournament, both coming on penalty kicks. The win against Algeria was huge for this team and I think they are full of confidence right now. I see the U.S. beating Ghana 2-1.
