Sid the kid saves the day
Yeah, be sure and tell those "other medalists" that they're failures. Winning a medal, regardless of color, is the highest honor any athlete can have. Every one absolutely aims to win the gold, but there were 172 medalists who are going home with hardware who deserve to be applauded for their efforts. Regardless if they weren't the best, they still earned the right to represent their country and stand on the podium. It doesn't get any better than that.
From Cool Runnings:
"Hey, it doesn't matter tomorrow if they come in first or fiftieth. Those guys have earned the right to walk into that stadium and wave their nation's flag. That's the single greatest honor an athlete can ever have. That's what the Olympics are all about."
If I go venture into the NHL season thread...how many of the chest-thumpers in this thread and the USA/Canada hockey thread will I find who post consistently over there?
The US team put on a great show. There's nothing to be angry about. If we got hammered 7-1 than maybe I could understand the bitterness.
The US had probably our greatest showing ever at a Winter Olympics. We won gold in a lot of the OLD SCHOOL events--4man bobsled, dominated Nordic Combined, Men's figure skating. We took overall medal count and the games were in our backyard basically.
I thought the Olympics were about doing your country proud on the global stage? Do olympic athletes really cry at winning bronze?
Canada did a hell of the job pulling off the Olympics after a truly auspicious start. We should be congratulating them and not talking shit to them.
Is Canada the kind of country to talk shit about a host country--like when that host country has a bomb scare:dunno: I think not enough Americans travel abroad and really appreciate the world around them. The USA is the land of myopia....
Im trying to decide whats more important /impressive. The most golds or the most medals.
There should be a points system, like 5 points for gold, 3 for silver, 2 for bronze.
So does anyone know how Canada got two games in 22 years (with all the other countries)? :dunno:

Probably because they are more likely to get snow and no bad press
- thats the theory anyway :1orglaugh
Although why they are having Sochi next is even more bewildering. As
Georgia is not very far away, and of course that war-torn nation of
Chechnya.I'll be surprised they will have any snow with all the heat
going on.
Surely it would have been better if they had it in the Urals :dunno:
How many medals did "not so Great Britain win?"

I hope it will build up hockey as a more popular game in the States not just in Minnesota, Michigan and several northern states.
Canada did a wonderful job at the closing ceremony ! I understand hockey is NOT the national sport of USA but it really attracted a lot of interests in the States about what hockey is and watched the Games Canada vs USA in the finale.

Our local AHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, the Houston Aeros, typically draw 7-8 thousand people on an average night and maybe 10-12 thousand on weekends. You can get a ticket for $5. There are other AHL teams in San Antonio and Dallas. Hockey is alive and well in Texas and I would LOVE to see an NHL franchise in Houston.
