There is no way Boise State should be in the top 5. If they were in the SEC they would finish no better than 7 and no better than 6 in the Big 10.

Florida and Texas (teams ranked behind Boise) are better at 20+ out of 22 positions.

I won a match play game over a buddy of mine last week, but that doesn't mean I belong in the Ryder Cup. It's all about the competition.

Boise St. has earned their way there by consistently proving they not only win their games but they are beating good teams when it counts.

Just like traditionally good programs have to really prove they deserved to be ranked lower before they lose their respectability. Unproven teams have to prove over time they deserved to be ranked highly. BSU has been proving this over the past few seasons plus they return many starters I believe.

As these rankings go...(just like with OSU) they generally go by how you finish and what you are returning.

They'll have a chance to prove if they belong again this season. Give them a chance and let it play out.

What also has to be considered with Boise State is that the past few years they have tried to schedule more of the top teams, but a lot of programs refused to play them so a lot of it isn't their fault. This is something the NCAA needs to work on so teams just can't schedule cupcake opponents to fill out there season. If I had it my way teams wouldn't be able to create their own schedule at all. Some independent part of the NCAA would do if for them to keep everything level and fair. They need to do that and get a playoff to determine the national champion and a lot of the problems it has now will go away.

What is funny is that if Alabama and Ohio State get beat the Bosie State will be the number one team in the country. I am not saying that is a bad thing but Boise State has a tough opener against Va Tech in Blacksburg I dont think Bosie State will beat Va Tech

The rankings are based on where the voters expect the teams to finish. They would be no better than an average team in any big conference.

They do not continue to beat good teams. Yes the had a big upset over an Oklahoma team that did not even want to be there. Since they have been pounded by Washington, Hawaii and East Carolina.

As bad as your Wolverines are this year and with RR on the hot seat, UM would be favored in 11 games if they played the Boise St schedule.

Not exactly true. Boise St has asked for a home and home series. Sorry, but Ohio St, USC, Alabama, Florida etc does NOT schedule away games against teams whose conference averages attendance in the teens.

The Va Tech game is at a nuetral site.

The preseason rankings are meaningless and there is no plausible way to quantify them before Week 8.

Just play the games. All things are not equal.
Schedules are not balances (not the NFL).
The conferences, until all adopt a championship game, are not a standard/litmus.

Baill...are you serious??? BSU lost 3 games 3 seasons ago since then they have only lost 1 game in 2 seasons (1 pt. loss in a bowl game).

They beat the Pac Ten champs in Oregon (pounded the snot out of them) and an undefeated No. 3 TCU team. Their only loses from this team are 5 players..two of whom didn't start I believe.

How on earth do they rank 4th at the end of last season and they return just about everyone but then they shouldn't be ranked preseason top 5????

You're algebra is different from mine Baill.

NCAA teams are only as good as their recruiting class.

Nothing dictates your record more than that. If you have a GREAT team in 2010, why should that be compared with what the program looked like in 2007? Those teams are largely irrelevant. Consequently..why should former success propel a shitty team to a higher rankings (enter Notre Dame)

Why not, is the entire OSU going to fall under if they generate slightly less money for themselves on a game or something? It's pretty sad when games are scheduled based on how much profit is going to be made from it, and frankly I find that to be a piss poor excuse anyway along with a large amount of rationalizing that goes along with it. Not to mention it gives big programs just that much more of an advantage, over the many it already has going for them, how convenient. It exploits all the small schools because they will be willing to bend over for the larger ones and lose just so they can get their check for that game. I'm sure in the back of their minds they are also scared because they have a decent chance to lose, especially to somebody like Boise State, when they can just schedule as many cream puffs as they can get away, at home no less, to fill out there schedule.

Maybe among the things I added before another thing the NCAA should adopt, or better yet congress, with the collegiate sports is revenue sharing.

Ohio St. seats over 100k, BSU seats maybe 35K...There is no way OSU or many other elite programs would go play in Bronco Stadium. They would almost lose money.

Let's keep in mind...at the end of the day money is 1-A and competition is 1-B.

J. Edgar Hoover eyed Tide, 'Bear' Bryant :surprise:

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Forty years ago, Alabama football fans watched Southern California and a black running back named Sam Cunningham trounce coach Paul "Bear" Bryant's Crimson Tide in a game widely credited with helping start the integration of Southern football.

Fans weren't the only ones watching Alabama football back then.

The FBI, apparently with the approval of then-director J. Edgar Hoover, was secretly keeping an eye on a civil rights lawsuit filed by blacks against the legendary coach during the same period.

Paul "Bear" Bryant had won three national titles with Alabama when in 1969 the FBI began tracking him.

Documents released to The Associated Press under the Freedom of Information Act show that for almost two years, agents tracked the suit filed by a prominent black lawyer against Bryant, the University of Alabama and others to make Bryant recruit black football players.

For the rest of the article click...here

Anyone who knows anything about the situation at that time knows that Coach Bryant wanted to have black players on his teams much earlier, but he was very hesitant to be vilified. And he did more to integrate the state than all the politicians from DC.

Back to football!

:horse: I'm not defending Boise State anymore. Either they pass the smell test of they don't. They've beaten plenty of brand-name teams at home and on the road and in BCS games. They aren't allowed to cherry-pick their schedule and play the toughest the SEC has to offer, the Big 11, the Pac10, etc. I only ask that everyone pay attention to them. Look at their offense. The WR routes, the play-calling, etc. They actually PLAY creative football. They don't just sign the "the best talent" and just throw bodies out there and expect to win. They must earn every win by out playing and outcoaching their opposition. They will be going into a hostile environment--neutral site my ass--and they should win the game. Not by 50 points, but a win is a win is a win :dunno:

They'll be moving into the MWC soon. That will bring them more money and they'll be able to increase their football budget...

Or Peterson will be courted by a much bigger program.

Although I supported Rich Rod being a candidate to replace Carr for quite some time, I did have Petersen as one of my candidates too. I still think RR is a good coach just went about things all wrong at UM....

He's still one of my favs if RR gets the ax this season.

NCAA teams are only as good as their recruiting class.

Boise State's recruiting classes have been ranked 70, 68, 89, 72, 82 nationally by rivals over the last 5 years.

Yes, they win a lot of games over nobodys, but you can't really argue that they are an elite team when they have last talent than a lot of MAC schools.

Ohio State has 2 sports that make money that has to support 37 scholorship sports. (By far more than any other D 1 school.

I think Title 9 was one of the most important pieces of legislation, but it is not cheap to run that many sports. If Ohio State played in stadiums that seated less than 30k, we would not be able to have so many young men and women experience the greatness that is the NCAA.

Sorry, but we schedule non conference travel games against USC, Washington, NC State, Miami, Cincinnati, Cal, Oklahoma, Va Tech and Tennessee.

He has become one of my favs too!

I'm not

Because

That's really saying something

Is this a Boise State thread or something?
Coaching is nice and all, but it all boils down to what schools can get the FL, TX, CA,LA elite talent.

No, it is a thread dedicated to NCAA football 2011. The thread is 32 pages long and there only a few posts about Boise.

BTW, Boise is ranked ahead of any school form thosestates you just mentioned.

My point is if Boise beats a mediocre Va Tech team, they are almosted sure to run the table. If "bama or Ohio State stumbles anywhere along the way, it is likely that Boise would be in the NC.

That would be a crime against humanity.
