No, we only have to deal with you until Bama loses. And that will be happening during the season and quicker than you think...

The thing you should be worried about, in all seriousness, is that Coach Saban hasn't caught wind of a giant agent/payola scandal at Bama because there's one thing we all agree on in this thread--no other college football team has been more corrupt over the years than Bama :yesyes: It's true.

Now smoknn, and my other college fball colleagues, let's examine Bama's post per the ESPN "Prestigious Program Ranking" thingy that was posted recently.

6. Alabama Crimson Tide
Total points: 1,534
Positives:
Alabama has won seven national titles, tying with Oklahoma and USC for the second-most by any program. Three of those five titles came in a five-year span in the '60s. The Tide had another big run with three in a seven-year span in the '70s. It's no wonder that Alabama was the second-best program in the '70s, trailing USC in the decade by a single point. Bama has the most bowl appearances (52) and bowl wins (28) of any program.

Negatives:
Alabama was not its usual dominant self in the '80s, finishing 15th in that decade. But the thing holding the Tide back in the overall standings is the BCS era (since 1998), in which they rank 28th. They have had three losing seasons this decade, the most in a decade since the 1950s (1954-57). Bama hasn't won a major bowl game since 1992 and hasn't had a first-round draft pick since 2000. [ Even updated w/2010 info, smoknn, this is embarrassing!!!]

Through the decades: Through 1958: 12th | 1968: 3rd | 1978: 4th | 1988: 2nd | 1998: 3rd
Did you know? Despite all its tradition, Alabama has never had a Heisman winner. [Memo to ESPN: Maybe update this? Shocking that Bama only has 1 Heisman.]

I dunno smoknn, but Bama, especially during the BCS era ain't all that much...I would say ESPN has assessed Bama accurately. :yesyes:

^The ESPN Prestige Program list was posted in 2009. Bama might move up to, say, #4 with winning the NC this past season, but Texas would also move up...and my Trojans would slide down since this assessment also takes NCAA Infractions into account (Reggie Scumbag Bush).

Maybe now my Trojans are #2 behind Bama in the All-Corrupt Football Program List, if ESPN ever decides to create that one... :crying:

Having a head coach who gets fired after 1 month on the job for hanging out in a tittybar probably still puts Bama in the top spot of the All-Corrupt list :yesyes::thefinger

let me point a few things out..athlons sports book seems to think our defence is gunna ba as good if not better than last year??i dont see it..maybe im wrong..i hope..however ..our offence is gunna be hell on a greyhound..dont know if that will get us there or not..but bama is gunna light the scoreboard up...i seen them in the a day game...i never seen a alabama offence click like that...but..we are due to lose a game after a 26-2 run we due to go flat a game...try to imagine pennst beating bama in t town..both run the rest of the year...they are setting at almost the right spot to play for the N C ..ITS ALL ABOUT THE DOLLAR$ I WOULD HATE TO SEE WHAT A TICKET WOULD COST FOR THAT ONE....ok im rambling....

How many of those Alabama championships (among other teams) came while segregated, playing almost all their competition in a conference that was mainly segregated, and in a system where they voted for the national championship before the bowls so in essence giving the illusion of the team and conference being better than they were for playing equally weak competition? it could be argued that recent decades are better at determining the quality of the team and more emphasis should be placed on them.

First of all, what difference does that make? Second, they paid the price in 1966 when Alabama was the only undefeated team in the nation and didn't get the MNC because they had won it in '64 and '65 and no one had done it 3 times in a row, and an all white team damn sure wasn't going to be the first. Is that "justice" when it's won on the field?:dunno:

Don't they teach english @ 'bama?

this is not a english board ..its a football board..i never liked english...english was for girls..the boys always had a football game going on  why you gotta be like that bro??the season hasnt even started?? and your already kicking on bama???

Not to split hairs, but Michigan State and Notre Dame tied a game. A tie is not a loss, so there were three undefeated teams in 1966. Alabama was undefeated and untied.

My point is that there will never be a true National Champion until there is a playoff.

I think the implication is that Bama wouldn't have won as much if there were African American players in the SEC. Bama hasn't won as much post-segregation, eh? Maybe that will change with the Satan era now in full swing...

I think Bama will lose to San Jose...just kidding :thefinger
Bama will be up for Florida, Tennessee, Auburn...

So I believe Penn State, Arkansas, LSU and South Carolina are the losses...

I can't pick Penn State because they are breaking in a new QB...

I will say it will be either Arkansas or South Carolina who will beat Bama.:yesyes:

Well by this time Alabama was being criticized for not playing tougher opponents and I don't think they played many games outside of the state.

1966 I don't believe Alabama played one game outside of the state Alabama in addition to their schedule being perceived as weak.

That would be somewhat akin to questioning 40 years later why Boise St. or Utah finished undefeated and untied but weren't recognized for a championship.

Certainly you're not suggesting they were victims of reverse racism in 1966 are you?

Although it would be a point that many of the best teams had blacks on them by then. With Alabama not playing them because of that...it was seen as Alabama getting fat on lesser opponents. To that degree by '66 voters were less inclined to keep recognizing Alabama's undefeated records if they were not playing some of the best teams.

J. Edgar Hoover eyed Tide, 'Bear' Bryant :surprise:

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Forty years ago, Alabama football fans watched Southern California and a black running back named Sam Cunningham trounce coach Paul "Bear" Bryant's Crimson Tide in a game widely credited with helping start the integration of Southern football.

Fans weren't the only ones watching Alabama football back then.

The FBI, apparently with the approval of then-director J. Edgar Hoover, was secretly keeping an eye on a civil rights lawsuit filed by blacks against the legendary coach during the same period.

Paul "Bear" Bryant had won three national titles with Alabama when in 1969 the FBI began tracking him.

Documents released to The Associated Press under the Freedom of Information Act show that for almost two years, agents tracked the suit filed by a prominent black lawyer against Bryant, the University of Alabama and others to make Bryant recruit black football players.

I met Sam Cunningham (didn't know he was Randall's brother) through John Papadakis (Petros' dad). He and Sam Cunningham wrote a book about that game called, "Turning of the Tide: How one game changed the south."

You are not the only person to day that. Those are two trap games

There is no way Boise State should be in the top 5. If they were in the SEC they would finish no better than 7 and no better than 6 in the Big 10.

Florida and Texas (teams ranked behind Boise) are better at 20+ out of 22 positions.

I won a match play game over a buddy of mine last week, but that doesn't mean I belong in the Ryder Cup. It's all about the competition.
