Great battle between UCLA and #4 Kansas last night, but it is such a shame on how the game ended.

And all I wanted (all anybody wanted, really) was to see them do it for another five minutes after regulation. But rather than let that happen, a referee decided to call a foul on Malcolm Lee in the final second that sent Mario Little to the line. He made the first free throw to break the tie, missed the second on purpose. Then the final buzzer sounded and everybody exited the court, and a terrific night was ruined by a less-than-terrific whistle.

I mean seriously, close games like that late in the game should be decided by the players, not by the ones whistling ticky-tack calls when they should be swallowed.

At best, it was an unnecessary call; at worst, it was dead wrong and shameful.

Yep. An absolutely horrible call.

Was the ref a Big 12 official?

Butler's foul shooting is atrocious.

Solid win #21 Illinois picked up over #24 Gonzaga - they looked absolutely ridiculous shooting over 50% from behind the arc, including shutting down leading 'Zags scorer Steven Gray for most of the game. Gonzaga needs to find more consistent scoring options outside of Gray, otherwise they may be headed for some bad losses later in the season.

Great win over #10 kentucky for UNC. Offense finally looked like they were on the same page.

The ridiculous number of turnovers has to stop and 3 point D has to improve if they want #2 seed in the ACC.

A blind midget with parkinson's disease can shoot better from the foul line than John Henson.

Michigan State. Wow.

Well...we lose our asses to ranked teams because of turnovers and ineffective bench play. Then we almost get beaten by unranked teams because they can't contain big men in the paint, or pesky guards at the perimeter. Kudos to the Summitmen Grizzlies for a good game. And despite the long road haul and Lucas' tendon, Izzo had better shape this squad up for the Big10 opener. He has a week.

Looks like karma came back to smite Bruce Pearl and his Volunteers; great victory by Oakland (Mich.) on the road at #7 Tennessee with an 89-82 win Tuesday night. Oakland big man Keith Benson looked filthy aganist the Vols, and there's no doubt he should be the favorite to win the Summit League POY once again this year.

They took the Spartans to the limit and we (Michgan) play the gutty little Grizzlies on Saturday.

Damn!!

--Duke demigod Kyrie Irving is OUT. Indefinitely. Coach K confirms it. Will this weaken the Devils? Possibly. Does this give Ohio State hope? Definitely.
--Speaking of the Bucks...outside-the-arc Mephisto Jon Diebler drained 9 straight 3-pointers against the heavily unfavored FGC Eagles. One more of the three he later missed woulda put him into the Scarlet And Gray Pantheon, with such dignitaries as John Havlicek, Jerry Lucas, and Gary Williams.
--And speaking of programs fraught with controversy, the Kansasers have suspended nobody guard Mario Little after he attacked his GF and several of her suitors. Coach Bill Self was quick in announcing the decision, after expressing relief that it wasn't one of their "nonexpendable" players.
--And speaking of programs treading water, the Missouri Tigeless have suspended PG Michael Dixon, for violation of stuff too horrible to be mentioned. Coach Mike Anderson refused to comment on the charges, stating only that he "Prays every day for his immortal soul."
--Finally, congrats are in order for Kentucky coach John Calipari. His inspiring charity Shoes For Everybody has earned him the sorta-coveted OPP Award in the coaches category. He beat out the second place nominee, Coaches Against Lisps began by ESPN regular Lou Holtz.

This kills me, I am really fond of this young one. He's been on the sidelines for the last few games and no one has had an official diagnosis on his injury. Just means that Smith and Singler and the Plumlees will have to continue to push the team along... and maybe Curry can prove his worth? :dunno:

And Tennessee takes another dive against a mid-major for the second consecutive time - poor shooting and poor gameplan execution is certainly a recipe for disaster.

Freshman Josh Selby looked awesome in his season debut for Kansas. Hitting five 3-pointers, including a game winner.

Selby has been serving an NCAA-ordered suspension, so he had to sit the first 9 games this season. Looks like a one-and-doner to me.
