2008 March Madness Thread

Didn't see this or a College Basketball thread around...so I thought I'd start 'er up.

Just watched USC/Ucla at Pauley on TV...Trojans came out with a win. OJ Mayo had a decent, not spectacular game. Davon Jefferson #5 was the real stud for USC. Of course CBS gave player of the game to Mayo though...:1orglaugh

We're about halfway home before the bracket comes out. Who's your team and whatddya think they'll do in conference and in the Tourney??

Had Afflallo not followed the $$$$$$ to become an NBA benchwarmer, UCLA would have owned this year. As it is I'll take North Carolina.

Edit: Kudos to Tim Floyd. It won't become the norm but he flat out-coached Ben Howland today.

It was a grinding, sloppy win for SC...I'll obviously take it. Just when Ucla looked like they'd pull away...USC would run an offensive play and there'd be a guy slip through Ucla's D and get an easy bucket...both teams played hard. SC has a nice core team--no depth---and they better find someone that can hit a 3ptr consistently.

It's always nice to plant the flag at Pauley:thefinger:1orglaugh

My impression of OJ Mayo is he needs another year at SC. He's got half of an NBA game right now. He's way too raw.

What's your impression of Kevin Love? Is he 1 and done?

UCLA had 25 offensive rebounds but only scored 63 points. They attempted 26 three pointers. WTF was that? Even their bigs were throwing up bombs! If Love's so great, why aren't they running their offense more from the inside out?

What's your impression of Kevin Love? Is he 1 and done?

My impression is he's in no way ready for the NBA. But who knows anymore; he might leave anyway :dunno:

Selection Sunday nears.....

Have I mentioned how much I hate conference tournaments?

So as it turns out K Love ended up being the pac 10 player of the year. Maybe he would be ready for prime time after all, though I still think he'd benefit from another year in college.

Michigan State got by Illinois 59-51. Next they have to play the Buckeyes in the tournament, who beat them at the end of the regular season. Izzo said the Spartans' lackluster performance might have been due to illness on the team. Hope they get well by later today!:(

Yay for March Madness!! I absolutely LOVE the NCAA basketball tourney. I look forward to it every year!!!

I'm ready for it cant wait there is always good games and some upsets to boot.

Gee...this thread kinda started with a USC/ucla bball game...and loookee who plays in the Pac10 Conference Tourny! I think USC will beat ucla in the Conf Tourney, but ucla will have a much better Tourney...probably another Final Four appearance...

For some reason...I think the FF, as of right now has: North Carolina, Tennessee, Ucla, Stanford in it....

I see Memphis being sent packing in the Second Round....

Well we squeezed by Ohio State 67-60. The Cheeseheads look tough in the Tourney, though...

Less than 24 hours after I typed the above the Bruins lost Luke Richard to an ankle injury in a game his team should be exempt from due to having already won their conference championship. How sad, and what a total waste. So long NCAA title, but hey at least the pac10 generated some extra revenue  Have I mentioned I frikkin hate conference tournaments?

Tennessee will play Butler in the second round. I like the Vols, but an upset is possible. Meanwhile, possible upsets in the first round by region:
EAST: George Mason will give ND all they can handle. Don't be shocked...they won their conference tourney after a rough last few games. They played Villanova and K State tough. Sure they've been inconsistent, but they're peaking at the right time. Plus they have Folarin Campbell.
MIDWEST: Davidson is no slouch. Nineteen straight wins and the Southern Conference championship. They played No. 1 seed NC to a 4-point game, and their opponent is coming off a tourney loss. Led by point merchant Stephen Curry and the 3-point shooting of Brendan McKillop, they have very high expectations.
SOUTH: Shouldn't be any real surprises in this region. The Miss St Oregon game is a toss-up, with the Bulldogs holding the Varnado advantage.
WEST: You could see a lot of crazy stuff in this region. West. Kentucky never lost by more than ten all season, and they played Gonzaga to the wire. Matt Maresca is scary accurate. Baylor finished 4th in the Big 12 but, man...can they roll up the points. I'd go with the Hilltoppers in the upset if I could only pick one.

My bracket is filled out. I must admit I wasn't exactly a risk-taker in the Final Four. I have Tennessee, Georgetown, UCLA and Memphis.:o

My Final Four:
West Regional: UCLA Bruins
South Regional: Memphis Tigers
East Regional: North Carolina Tarheels
Midwest Regional: Kansas Jayhawks
(All top seeds make it thru...I never had that happen before...)

West Regional Shocks:
I see Drake going up against UCLA, but all other top seeds win in the opening round.
South Regional Shocks:
St. Mary's over Miami, Florida in the 1st round
East Regional Shocks:
George Mason and Butler win their 1st round games, and I see Butler making it to a game against Louisville, in a 3-7 match-up.
Midwest Regional Shocks:
I see is Clemson making it to the semi-finals.

I see UCLA taking out Memphis and NC defeating Kansas, with UCLA winning yet another championship.

If all 4 number 1 seeds make it to the final four, I will be truly shocked.
