People, do not repost the picture with the three heads cut off.

That point has been made.

OKay - I will first say it was and is WRONG what the soldiers did. But as noted many men, especially young men are not cut out for war, they do the job as best they can, but loose themselves into a dark place.
Being and ex-Special Forces Army Wife (with hopefully no more Recall to Duty notifications for him), I will tell you the Army (especially) deploys for longer time and more often repeated operational deployments.

As stated this stuff (wrong YES) has happened many times, and is a black eye for any true soldier, be it US or UN soldier. Many soldiers are offended by such actions, they do not rejoice nor allow such autocracies, especially with civilians.

As for photo taking with dead civilians that is sick, with a dead enemy well that is not out of the norm. Many soldiers take sick / dark photos of the death they see, many its a way of coping. The problem is the level of stupidity in posting them. All of these issues have happen many times before by soldiers in countries all around the world, now the press just circulates the news more readily.

I am sure the Military Courts of Justice will do what they have to - that is now in there hands.

Unless you are a Combat Soldier, you may never know what goes threw these men minds. I for one thanks gawd I never have to do the things they do. I thank soldiers everywhere whom do the jobs they do, and allow many of us to armchair our opinions because of this freedom they obtain for us.

Jailed for 24 years: The U.S. soldier who was part of 'death squad' which murdered three Afghan civilians

could be eligible for parole in about seven years

'He's really a good kid. This is just a bad war at a bad time in our country's history,' Geoffrey Nathan, one of his lawyers said.

'There was a lack of supervision, a lack of command control, the environment was terrible. In his mind, he had no choice.'

NO CHOICE - Choosing not to act (humanly) is still a choice! Choosing to NOT report the actions and join in WAS a Choice! - That is a stupid statement ONLY a lawyer would say.

The lack of supervision that both his lawyer and his mum said made me laugh, he isn't a baby he's a grown man of 22. Is the army supposed to follow every soldier around and make sure they don't murder people?, I blame it on the blame everyone else except me culture that seems so prevalent today. He was sane enough to try and make it look like the Afghans were killed in combat, he was just stupid and got caught and was going to go for an insanity plea but I guess they knew that would be ridiculous. Sentences like these are only going to make ordinary Afghans feel their lives are worth than an Americans and they will start deviating back towards the comfort zone of the Taliban. His plea bargain should've seen him avoid the death penalty but still get life, but 7 years for 3 murders  Some people have been in Guantanimo for 10 years and haven't been charged with anything.

When you train dogs to attack, none of us should be surprised when some of them start to like it too much and get off the leash.:2 cents:

That said, we are supposed to be better than this, and this kind of thing, killing for no reason, sickens me.

8 years will seem ridiculous if he played a more active role than he let on, I guess we'll have to give him the benefit of doubt

Slap on the wrist for 'aggressive' leader of rogue Afghanistan 'kill squad' as he's cleared of responsibility for atrocities

In one horrific episode, the magazine claims troops threw a grenade at an innocent Afghan boy before chopping off his finger and later using it as 'gambling chip' in a game of cards.

According to Rolling Stone the men joked for weeks about killing ‘savages’ before finally murdering a boy of around 15 in a farming village, their first kill.

To cover their tracks they threw a grenade in his direction to make it look like they had come under attack.

But with his body on the floor events took an even more sinister turn as Gibbs allegedly started ‘messing around with the kid', moving his arms and mouth and ‘acting like the kid was talking'.

He then supposedly took a pair of medic’s scissors and snipped off the boy’s pinky finger and handed it to Holmes as a trophy for his first kill in Afghanistan.

Rolling Stone claims Holmes carried it around in a zip-lock bag.

‘He wanted to keep the finger forever and wanted to dry it out,’ a friend said later. ‘He was proud of his finger.’

The magazine claims that among those accused: 'killing innocent Afghan civilians became less a reason for concern than a cause for celebration’.

The investigation found that at least 15 members regularly smoked hashish and it was also reported soldiers killed chickens and dogs for sport.

Shockingly, on one occasion the entire platoon fell asleep while on patrol, failing to post anyone on guard watch.

The sentencing hearing began immediately after the verdict was announced, with prosecutor Major Andre LeBlanc asking for the maximum, life without parole.

He told jurors that Gibbs was supposed to protect the Afghan people but instead caused many to lose trust in Americans. Mr LeBlanc noted that Gibbs repeatedly called the Afghans 'savages'.

'Ladies and gentlemen, there is the savage - Staff Sergeant Gibbs is the savage,' he said.

Gibbs's lawyer, Phil Stackhouse, asked for leniency - life with parole - and noted that Gibbs could be eligible for parole after 10 years if they allowed it.

'He'd like you to know he has had failures in his life and he's had a lot of time to think about them,' Mr Stackhouse said. 'He wants you to know he's not the same person he was in Afghanistan.

He doesn't want his wife to have to raise their son on her own.'

If the US Government had any character or integrity they would publicly hang these 12 soldiers for war crimes. But then what would the Patriotards have to say about it? They would say Obama doesnt support the troops. If NeoCons again drag the US into a war against Iran the OWS protestors are going to riot in the streets, only now they will be joined by millions more Americans pissed off with the government and banking/corporate establishment and the scam political system of the US. The OWS protestors may be remembered in history as being the Paul Revere of the next America Revolution or the first shot fired at fort Sumpter. OWS will bring in the American spring we are in such need of. They have tried early on to direct and infiltrate the OWS movement like they did with the Tea Party. But the OWS movement is an idea who's time has come and it cannot be stopped. Really the idea for Angry Americans to take to the streets en masse because they are angry and fed up with the liars who run and control our soceity. They are the majority of Americans who know they are not being represented politically, and that voting for another corporate/banking shill is not going to solve the serious problems facing the US today. If martial law is declared and the US Government orders its troops to shoot US citizens, that will be the first shot fired in the new revolution to take back the USA from the people who have subverted this nation into choosing the path to total tyranny.

Everyone is laughing at the US crumble and continue to humiliate itself and the people of the USA. AQ is watching its enemy self distruct before their eyes, all the USA can afford to do now is issue empty threats that it could never hope to back up without it being apocalyptic for the country's survival. The US is now a paper Tiger with worthless dollars that are not worth the paper they are printed on. Hello third world America how are you?
