0 - 16 Lions . . . what now ?

im pretty sure the Ravens were better than 3-13 last season

^You are correct. I am incorrect. I swear I heard "Boomer" Berman of ESPN say (last night during The Blitz) the Ravens went from a 3-13 to this year's turnaround. I should've taken my own er...recommendation.

might have been talking about the falcons....i believe they won 3 games last year....cant remember if its 3 or 4....but it very well could have been the falcons....as they are also led by a rookie QB

They weren't. Look it up.

I don't remember watching them that much but I think they might also have been better than their record indicated.

If a team like Green Bay does well next year I won't be surprised for the same reason.

The Lions are almost really as bad as they seem.

As long as Ford Sr. is running the team they will be terrible. He doesn't care about winning and has proved that in his 50 years of ownership. Worst run franchise in pro sports history.

On a positive note. I'd imagine the blackouts have brought the suicide rate down.

It was just refreshing that someone was worse than my pathetic 2-14 Chiefs this year. But hey, we got rid of our once good/now bad GM in Carl Peterson.

We'll see if replacing him does any good.

Go Lions!

You can win with nobodies playing RB and WR in today's modern NFL. Can anyone name a WR playing for the Eagles? NO GOOGLING!

Without googling, Desean Jackson, Kevin Curtis, and Hank Baskett are all I can think of.

Although I gotta say, Brian westbrook isn't a "nobody". Desean Jackson looks like he's gonna be something special as well.

Enough about the Eagles though, the Lions need to be taken away from the Ford family. The NFL needs to implement a rule that says an NFL teams ownership can be forcebly bought out by the league if the current ownership fails to field a competative team in a certain number of years, lets say 10. That way the league could prevent uncaring owners from ruining an NFL franchise. It's obvious the Fords don't give a shit. They suck at making cars and they suck at running a football team.

what the lions need is good scouting....
drafting 4 WRs in the first round in a 5 year span....all in the top 10 no less....thats just bad drafting
and having only one of them really pan out...its bad luck to a certain point and after that its just scouting...the only 2 first round picks who are relevant NFL players are Calvin Johnson and Ernie Sims....the jury is still out on Gosder Cherilus

but this all starts with the player personnel department (whatever the name of Parcells' position in Miami is)

The Dolphins, Saints and the Falcons are the templates. Everything starts with a QB. The Lions have to find a solid A+ QB. Then address OLine. Then address DL. Then address CBs. Then address RBs. Then address WRs. You can win with nobodies playing RB and WR in today's modern NFL. Can anyone name a WR playing for the Eagles? NO GOOGLING!!

the Saints drafted Brees o-line help when he came in....and theyre a good passing blocking o-line....they dont run block very well
Miami did the same in Drafting Jake Long and also building a sturdy o-line for Pennington
the Falcons have a killer o-line when it comes to running...and theyre pretty good pass blockers as well

all of which PROTECT THE QUARTERBACK....allowing him to make plays and look good

and just about every good/contending team has a good RB or WR.....the ones that dont are the ones that suck

The Ravens had an old, mean Defense and no QB last season and they went 3-13 and got rid of Brian the Brain. This season with The Great Flacco---playoffs.
I don't think the Lions are that far away from 8-8 provided they find a solid QB.

not diminishing what hes done...bc it is impressive but doesnt hurt that Flacco has a killer defense and a solid ground game to support him
The Lions are very far away from 8-8....getting rid of Shaun Rogers was their biggest mistake...he was a real clog in the middle....and everyone ran right through the lions like a hot knife through butter

I'm a lions fan (yes i admit it) and the only way this team will get fixed is a new braintrust at the top. Sadly WCF decided to keep the current interim GM (who was a part of this debacle)...lets hope he isn't as dumb as Millen.

Anyway, i'm praying with the first two picks we take Andre Smith (the OT from 'bama) and either DT (gotta look at the draft boards at the ratings) or Rey Maualuga from USC. I just like that mean streak that he has, and the Lions need some attitude and passion in that locker room. After that go more linemen offense AND defense. Build that up and everything else will fall into place.

Very well put except Shaun Rodgers, he was a poor in fundementals playing in Detroit, Leigh Bodden seemed like a good trade at the time.

I think the biggest problem with Shaun Rodgers in Detroit is that they tried to constantly fit a system where it didn't optimize his abilities. They were trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. If they really thought they had one of the best players in the league at his position ,like they claimed, it was stupid to try and force him into a system that didn't even work instead of adjusting the system to him. That's what good coaching staffs and front offices do, and is just another thing to show how ineptitude Detroit was.
