As someone that drives for a living, I can't think of a better solution, to demoronize the streets. People in Boston drive as bad as people in New York...the world is better off, believe me.

And this isn't marshal law...there won't be national guardsmen patrolling the streets. It's a state of emergency, and it calls for some reasonable TEMPORARY regulations.

Otherwise there's these things called curbs for anyone driving according to the conditions.

The main street in my town (which technically used to be part of MA) has no curbs, and plenty of the houses are within 10-20 feet of the road. The measures that the Governor's taking are completely reasonable, and entirely for the safety of the civilians he represents and the state's emergency responders.

You're being way too glib. The simple fact of the matter is that familiarity breeds contempt when it comes to winter driving. Too many drivers survive a couple miles at 35, 40, 45....next thing you know they're doing 65 through the snow and ice. But only for a little while. This isn't theory, I've seen it all over the country. And Sammy can be his usual, insufferable know-it-all self; but the worst offenders are usually driving the 4x4s. And we haven't even mentioned all the semis acting like King of the Road, tossing up **** from their tires without a care.

Shutting down the roads until they get a handle on this blizzard is the right thing to do. And here's the kicker for all Conservatives. The government will wind up spending LESS money dealing with it.

The Boston Globe admits it is unusual – Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick has outlawed motor vehicle traffic in the state ahead of what is being billed as a historic snowstorm.
“The travel ban, a rare measure, was announced by Patrick at a news conference at the state’s emergency bunker in Framingham,” the newspaper reports. Patrick said a declared state of emergency allows him to
impose the measure of citizens.

The director of the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, Kurt Schwartz, said during the news conference that the travel ban will be imposed on all roads in the state. He added that there are several exceptions, “such as for public safety, media, and vehicles supplying essential businesses like convenience stores and hardware stores. ********* the travel ban, he said, could incur a penalty of a year in jail and a $500 fine,” the Globe writes.
