There was a time when I used to get really excited in anticipation of teams finally showing the cars they'd use for the upcoming season. Now it's just "Meh..." Couldn't be bothered studying the difference between the new Lotus and last years. It reminds me when CART had that rule of not being able to update their cars for 3 years.

Marussia will launch the MR02 on the first day of testing at Jerez. There has been nothing official on who Max Chilton's teammate will be for 2013, but it looks like GP2 runner-up Luiz Razia will be chosen for the second seat.

Giedo van der Garde will partner Charles Pic at Caterham for 2013.

McLaren's Button quickest on day one at Jerez

Jenson Button shrugged off early reliability woes to set the pace on the opening day of Formula 1's first pre-season test of 2013 at Jerez.
The Briton's morning ground to a halt after just three exploratory laps due to a fuel-pump failure on his McLaren, and he remained sidelined until the midway point.
A similar problem led to Lewis Hamilton's retirement from the lead of last year's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Button was eventually able to resume and in the final minutes of the session clocked a 1m18.861s on Pirelli's new hard compound tyres, putting him more than eight tenths clear of the field.
Second was claimed by Mark Webber, after the Australian staged his own late rally following a modest morning in the title-defending Red Bull RB9.
Webber jumped ahead of Romain Grosjean's Lotus with a 1m19.709s, only for Button to trump that almost immediately.
That left morning pacesetter Grosjean in third, ***** India's Paul di Resta fourth and Toro Rosso's Daniel Ricciardo fifth, the trio all having set the fastest times in the morning.
Di Resta clocked up more laps than any other driver, his final tally standing at 89.
Felipe Massa managed to improve in the Ferrari F138 and ended the day sixth fastest, albeit 1.6s down on Button.
On his first day testing for Sauber, Nico Hulkenberg was seventh fastest, just ahead of Nico Rosberg and the stricken Mercedes camp.
Rosberg had been setting the pace in the morning but his run - and his day - came to a premature end due to an electrical fault.
Mercedes eventually had to abandon the rest of the day as it waits for new parts. Hamilton is set to test for the first time tomorrow.
Pastor Maldonado, driving the old-spec FW34 Williams, finished just ahead of F1 rookies Giedo van der Garde and Max Chilton.
Chilton went off at Dry Sac shortly after setting his fastest time in the afternoon, with Marussia later identifying a fault with the rear suspension.

Hamilton crashes in first test with Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton crashed his Mercedes on the 2008 world champion's first day of pre-season testing with his new Formula One team on Wednesday.
The Englishman was behind the wheel for around 20 minutes before he careered in a straight line across the gravel runoff at the Jerez circuit and nose first into the tyre wall at turn six, the Dry Sack corner.
The car was slowed by the gravel but the wheel tracks indicated Hamilton had been a mere passenger with no response from the steering as it went off the track.
The 28-year-old, who was second fastest with a best lap of one minute 19.519 seconds when he brought out the red flags, stepped out apparently unhurt.
Hamilton, who had completed 15 laps, is opening a new chapter in his Formula One career with Mercedes after six years with McLaren but the British-based team have had a difficult start to the first pre-season test of 2013.
Germany's Nico Rosberg completed only 14 laps on Tuesday, the start of the test, after problems with the car's wiring loom left him stranded on the track with flames flaring briefly around the rear of the vehicle.

Paul di Resta split track time with James Rossiter.

Massa fastest on day three as Vettel tests

Felipe Massa's morning benchmark was enough to ensure Ferrari ended on top on a day when reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel got his first taste of Red Bull's RB9.
The Brazilian set the fastest time seen so far this week at Jerez when he broke the 1m18s barrier during a short run on soft tyres.
His 1m17.879s wasn't threatened in the afternoon, with only Nico Rosberg in the Mercedes W04 able to get within one second of the time.
Three different cars - McLaren, Lotus and now Ferrari - have topped the opening three days.
Rosberg provided a welcome relief to the setbacks Mercedes had suffered on days one and two by racking up 148 laps, comfortably the most of any driver.
The German had been ****** to cut short his day one programme due to electrical issues, while a rear-brake issue caused Hamilton's debut test for Mercedes to end early and in the barriers.
Vettel also broke into triple figures in the lap count, while an afternoon improvement was enough to send him into third overall.
Kimi Raikkonen, like Vettel getting his first taste of his team's 2013 car, improved in the afternoon session and finished just over one tenth of a second down on the triple world champion.
On his first day in the Toro Rosso STR8, Jean-Eric Vergne finished fifth, just ahead of ***** India's simulator driver James Rossiter.
Rossiter managed 42 laps in the morning before handing over to Paul di Resta, whose programme was then derailed after just seven laps due to an exhaust issue.
Jenson Button, who brought about a premature end to the day when he stopped out on track between Turns 7 and 8, was seventh ahead of Sauber's new signing and F1 rookie Esteban Gutierrez.
The Mexican was the day's second busiest driver with 110 laps.
Several late improvements helped carry Max Chilton into ninth, above Williams's new signing Valtteri Bottas and Caterham's Charles Pic.Today's times:

Vettel puts Red Bull on top at Jerez

Sebastian Vettel edged out Esteban Gutierrez to put Red Bull on top on the final morning of pre-season testing at Jerez.
Pedro de la Rosa's first day with Ferrari came to a smoking halt just two laps in when his gearbox failed, while the morning was cut short by disintegrating kerb that could threaten the afternoon running.
It was Vettel who started the day brightest, and for much of the morning the reigning world champion - on his second day in the RB9 - was the only man to have broken the 1m19s mark.
Gutierrez was the first to join him in Sauber's C32, posting a 1m18.669s which sent him provisionally top.
Moments later though Vettel responded by shaving a further tenth of a second off the benchmark, with his 1m18.565s proving unmatched for the rest of the morning.
Lewis Hamilton enjoyed a far more promising second morning in the Mercedes W04, racking up 59 laps and going third fastest following a late run on the medium compound.
That was in stark contrast to his first official test for the team, which was cut short when a brake failure sent him into the barriers at Dry Sack.
Less than four hundredths of a second covered the 2008 world champion, his predecessor Kimi Raikkonen in the Lotus E21 and his McLaren replacement Sergio Perez in the MP4-28.
Jean-Eric Vergne was next up in Toro Rosso's STR8, with Valtteri Bottas just over one second back in Williams 2012-spec FW34.
***** India's 2012 third driver and 2013 race seat aspirant Jules Bianchi went eighth fastest on his first - and at present only – day with the team.
Charles Pic and Luiz Razia rounded out the day's runners, although de la Rosa propped up the timesheets after his early gearbox issue prevented him from completing a single flying lap.
Gutierrez had also caused a red flag when he stopped out on track on what Sauber later confirmed was an out-of-fuel run.

Raikkonen ends first test of 2013 on top

Kimi Raikkonen topped the final day of Formula 1's first pre-season test of 2013 at Jerez.
The Finn set the best time of the day on a short run with the soft tyre during the afternoon running, which was extended by 30 minutes to make up for a delay caused by track repairs around lunchtime.
Raikkonen had attacked the run from the moment he left the pits, choosing to ***** a way past the Caterham of Charles Pic on his out lap rather than back off to get clear track.
After the short, but clearly committed run, the 2007 world champion switched back to longer runs.
Raikkonen's lap was just enough to prevent ***** India hopeful Jules Bianchi from leading the way as he bids to earn a promotion to a race seat with the Silverstone-based team.
Bianchi's lap, which came just after the track re-opened following the long stoppage in the middle of the day, also came on soft tyres.
The Ferrari junior had no chance to respond to Raikkonen's lap, as he handed the ***** India back to lead driver Paul di Resta for the final two hours.
World champion Sebastian Vettel was third fastest for Red Bull on a day where he focused on long runs with the medium and hard tyres.
Sauber's Esteban Gutierrez managed to go fourth with a short run, but he spent most of his afternoon getting used to how the Pirelli tyres behave on longer stints.
A series of short runs on the soft tyre helped Jean-Eric Vergne move up to fifth late in the day, moving him ahead of Lewis Hamilton.
The Briton had a much better second day with his new team, making up for his lack of running on Wednesday due to a crash by logging the most laps of anyone.
New Ferrari development driver Pedro de la Rosa got back out in the afternoon after a gearbox problem stopped the F138 in the morning. The Spaniard completed 50 laps.

I am fortunate to be attending the first race of the F1 season at Melbourne in 27 days from now - really looking forward to it! I will be cheering for Mark Webber! Let's hope the weather cools off a bit, its been hot conditions in Southern Australia recently.

Red Bull promises Webber equality with Vettel

Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz has assured Mark Webber that he will be given the same opportunities as Sebastian Vettel to win this year's Formula 1 world championship.
Earlier this year Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko said that Webber had problems dealing with the pressure that came with fighting for the title.
Asked by Gazzetta dello Sport whether that meant Red Bull would put its full weight behind three-time champion Vettel, Mateschitz insisted Webber would have a fair chance.
"I absolutely believe that and I'm certain that it will be so," Mateschitz said.
The Austrian described Webber as 'exceptional'.
"Mark is at the same time a strong and charismatic character and an exceptional racing driver," said Mateschitz.
"It's a fact that competition begins inside your own team. That means that the environment is tough but friendly, and that's how it's supposed to be."
Webber had shrugged off Marko's remarks in an interview on his personal website last month.
"Look, everyone at this level has their own agendas and it's been evident for a long time now that I've never been a part of Marko's," Webber said.

Vettel sets early pace in Barcelona test

Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull were quickest by a comfortable half-second margin as Formula 1 2013 winter testing resumed at Barcelona on Tuesday morning.
Even by testing standards, the initial session featured little activity at first, with most teams remaining coy and focusing on shakedowns and aero tests for the opening part of the morning.
Once the more serious runs began, times came down quickly and first place changed hands repeatedly.
On the morning that launched its new FW35, Williams spelt a long spell on top with Pastor Maldonado.
Nico Rosberg then put Mercedes ahead, before Sergio Perez edged in front after a long pause to reset in the McLaren garage.
As he tried the Ferrari F138 for the first time, Fernando Alonso deposed Perez for a few minutes only for Paul di Resta's ***** India to snatch first place away again and Vettel to then vault both.
Kimi Raikkonen then became the first man to lap under 1m24s in the morning with a 1m23.5s. Alonso closed to within half a tenth of the Lotus, but then Vettel took charge going into the final half hour.
A series of improvements got the Red bull to 1m23.046s, 0.525s clear of Raikkonen.
Alonso, Maldonado and Toro Rosso's Daniel Ricciardo were next up.
Perez completed the session in sixth, followed by di Resta, Nico Rosberg and Esteban Gutierrez, with Charles Pic and Max Chilton bringing up the rear in the Caterham and Marussia.
The only stoppage of the morning came when Gutierrez's Sauber deliberately ran out of fuel at Turn 7.

Rosberg fastest on day one in Barcelona

Nico Rosberg narrowly edged out Kimi Raikkonen to put Mercedes on top on the first day of Formula 1 pre-season testing at Barcelona.
Both men found improvements after bolting on Pirelli's medium-compound rubber in the final 20 minutes of the day.
Rosberg, whose morning had been disrupted by lengthy gearbox checks, was the first to make his move. New overall bests in the final two sectors produced a lap of 1m22.616s and vaulted him to the top of the timesheets.
Minutes later Raikkonen staged his own late rally, but despite bettering Rosberg's sector two time he fell seven thousandths of a second short of putting Lotus on top.
Fernando Alonso, again on mediums, was another late improver.
On his first day in the Ferrari F138 last year's championship runner-up worked his way down to a 1m22.952s to end the day in third.
The flurry of late improvements knocked morning pacesetter and reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel down to fourth.
The German had gradually improved his lunchtime best and was the first man to dip into the 1m22s bracket, only to be bumped down the order in theclosing stages.
Having launched its FW35 in the morning, Williams ended the day in fifth position courtesy of Pastor Maldonado, a racewinner at Barcelona last year.
The Venezuelan spent time at the top of the timesheets in the morning and racked up 85 laps in total, behind only Alonso in 110.
Daniel Ricciardo in the Toro Rosso STR8 shaded McLaren's Sergio Perez in the fight for sixth, while Paul di Resta - the day's third busiest man - was just two hundredths of a second down the road for ***** India.
After bringing about the day's first red flag with an early out-of-fuel run, Esteban Gutierrez was ninth fastest and just over 2.5s off the overall pace for Sauber.
Charles Pic was the only other man to cause a stoppage, pulling to the inside of Renault due to a mechanical issue with his Caterham.
He dropped to 11th in the afternoon as Marussia's Max Chilton found improvements with the soft tyre.
