Cleveland Deemed Most Miserable City in the USA

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that it could outdo Detroit on the misery scale!

Excerpt:
The Ohio city on the Cuyahoga River has high unemployment, dismal weather, hefty taxes, corruption and mediocre sports teams, all of which have propelled it to the No 1 position in the Forbes.com list.

"Cleveland nabbed the top spot as a result of poor ratings across the board. It was the only city that fell in the bottom half of rankings in all nine categories," Forbes said on it website.

"The city has been dubbed with a less than endearing nickname: the Mistake by the Lake," it added.

The rankings are based on jobless rates, inflation, taxes, commuting times, crime rates, performance by the city's sports teams, weather, pollution and corruption by public officials.

Cleveland Rocks!

The last good thing to ever come out of that town was the Drew Carey Show.

I don't understand how we are ranked as the most miserable city in the USA. Yes, our sports teams are a joke, our downtown area is pathetic, our streets are messy, the unemployment rate is outrageous, the...

Wow...maybe we ARE the most miserable city in the USA. Did you hear that? Did you hear that everybody? WE WON!!! WEEEEE WOOOOON!!!

:nanner:

It doesn't help that Chef lives there.

:jester:

I was the deciding factor in making it #1. Before they found out that I had moved back here, we were down at #389. The second they realized I had come back home, we shot up the list to numero uno.

Cleveland: The mistake by the lake.

Except Shaker Heights. I rather enjoyed that area. I should be back up there in a few months. :)

Oh well, there is still hope for Boston next year.

Columbus generally doesn't gather much mention, press or respect in compared to the other O-H-I-O ''biggies'', at least on my front, but hey, that could be a good thing, who wants to be a biggie and get press attention, right?

Actually Columbus is by far the biggest city in Ohio. It was well over twice as big as Cincinnati and approaching 40% bigger than Cleveland.

I think California is underrepresented in this to be honest. I'm surprised by Missouri getting 2 spots. Also surprised by Miami's place. Yes there is local gov't corruption and crime there. But which big city doesn't have those things :dunno:

It's definitely a list slanted toward the blue collar cities and towns although there are some big names on that list too....
