So I kinda got ripped off yesterday

I've been looking for a PS3 for a few weeks now, then I came across an add for one on Craigslist,an 80 gb for $275.

I drove about 40 minutes out to this guys house, and checked out the system. He had a bunch of demo and downloaded games on it.

He put in a PS1 game and gave me the controller and it worked fine.Of course,I thought that It was kinda weird that it only played PS1 games and not PS2 games,so I looked on the box that he had and sure as ****,it said that it was able to support "some" PS1 titles but not PS2.

After that,he threw in a regular DVD,not Bluray, and it played fine.So I went to the store, before I even got home and bought a controller, because for some reason he didn't want to include it,USB cables and one cheapo game.

I got home and hooked it to my tv(SD),and all seemed well as I played some of the demo games. But this afternoon was a whole different story.

I went to EB and got an HDMI cable to hook to my HD PC monitor,a router for online, and Prototype. So after hooking everything up to the monitor and playing a couple of demos to see what it looked like in HD,I was satisfied enough to throw in Prototype.

So I put the game in and nothing, take it out and put it in again and still nothing.I try a couple of PS1 games and nothing.WTF!I go through my entire collection of PS1 games and none of them would even load.

I call Sony and they say that my model doesn't play PS1 games at all,and I just checked the box and the serial numbers don't match from the box and the back of the system.

I call the guy today and of course he didn't pick up the phone, but he called back about 30 minutes later and when he heard my voice,he hung up.

Anyway,I'm probably gonna send it to Sony and pay the $140 to get it fixed, because everything else on the system works fine, like going online, and all that stuff.Worse case scenario,I have a system that will pretty much do what my PC does, and I wanted to buy a new one anyway.

So word to the wise,if you buy something off of someone online and are able to meet in person, get receipts if possible, and if someone has high end electronics, and claim that "I still have the box",make sure that the serial numbers match, because if I would've looked for that,I would've walked right out the door, and maybe right to the police.

Well, that's my rant for the day.

Will E Worm

Conspiracy...
Report him to Craigslist and to the police.

You could tell them he made threats when you called to get your money back. ;)

Go to his house, and try and get your money back. If he doesn't answer, or refuses, vandalize the **** out of his house and car. Karma is a bitch man. Don't fuck people over.

Will E Worm has the right idea. Make him pay. Muaaahaha ha ha haha ah ahahaha

I'd report the guy while you're at it. You can probably get your money back.

i would throw that fucking thing right through the fucking window of his place.
i understand tough economic times, but i but my systems only from the video game stores where there is some kinda warranty.
that seemed fishy from the get go. but i can totally understand for $275.
but u got scammed by the guy. what i don't understand is why scam someone when you are bringing them to your home? you know where he lives now and he purposely sold you something fucked up.

Right now I'm collecting as much information on the guy that I can get.I have only his first name(which could be fake, but criminals are stupid so you never know),I have his home address, his email address, and I'm going to print out the ads that he posted on Craigslist proving that he purposely misled me.

I'm not the type of person to start trying to fuck someone else's **** up,becuse if it comes down to going to court, then that just wouldn't help out my cause.

I have a friend at the gym that works for my town's police department,so I'll ask him if I could get a full name of this guy with the info that I have on him, then I'll take it to his towns police department.

What I would really like to know is how the hell he got those two discs to play.I put in probably 10 different discs of different formats and none of them would play.If he was smart enough to figure out that, how could someone be stupid enough to let you know where they live and give you their email and phone number?I'll riffle through this guys mail if I have to get more info on him.

So that's it.I'm not buying anything else from anyone off of CL that's any more than 50 bucks without having them provide a receipt or some sort of proof of purchase.

This is the reason I no longer buy used things off the internet. Unless they're guaranteed to work or are cheap enough, I wouldn't bother with them.

Anyways, good luck with your cause!

Legzman

what the fuck you lookin at?
report his ass and get your money back man. Fuck that! The serial numbers don't match. That alone is enough to get the police involved I would think? Something shady is going on.

Bad luck youve had something like this happen to you. I generally tend not to buy items of this sort of value second hand, rather from a reputable retailer (warranty etc also). Secondly you dont truly know who youre buying from, I am not familiar with buying from craiglist is it anything like ebay (ie auction)? By all means pursue this scumbag, but stay within the law, dont as some have suggested go vandalise his ass instead seek a lawyers advice, they may not charge you for initially looking into the matter. Personally I dont think legally you have really got a leg to stand on (burden of proof and all) after all its your word against his (nothing legally binding at all apart from your verbal agreement (which isnt really worth much). All the best anyway.

I have bought a few things on Craigslist, one of them being a car,and I have had pretty good success, but this is the first time that I have been ripped off.
As for any proof,I have copies of the Craigslist postings that he put up,and I have the emails that he sent,so I think that I do have something that could help.

Keep us informed though... i want to know the outcome

I definitely will.

The one dilemma that I have is that I could send the system into Sony and have it fixed for $140 and if they determine that it's been tampered with, they will send it back and refund my money. Now with the announcement the Sony will not be giving a price drop on the PS3 systems this summer,it's almost the same as if I were to go out and buy a brand new one, minus the warranty of course, but it's pretty much the same.My problem is that I just don't want to let this fucking dirtbag get away with it.

Now if he would've come out and said,"hey,it doesn't read discs, but you could send it in and it would be the same price",I still wouldn't have bought it,but I would've thought about it,but this guy was just flat out deceptive.

UPDATE!

If this guy did purposely try to screw me over, like I believe that he did,he's got to be the dumbest SOB around.

I just checked on the PS3 and poked around on his user profile.I looked in the Playstation network section and HE LEFT HIS EMAIL(which happens to include his first AND LAST NAME) IN THE LOG IN!!

Things are already looking up.

Oh,and I just left him a message telling him that we can handle this like men,and that we can meet up so that he can give me my money back or I will be seeking legal action.I'm almost hoping that he doesn't call me so I can go to the police and have them get this guy.

And now I just found out the name of his business!

This can't be going any better so far.

The internet is the greatest ***** on Earth!
