Am I the only guy who completely switched to handling and listening music with his computer? Once you get a decent speaker pair and a nice woofer, sound is fine

No, you're not the only one, I did it as well, and indeed, the sound is fine, not optimal, but fine. That's why I still hold on to my good old sound system. ;)

Sure, I still keep my old Sony system from the eighties. Receiver/Amplifier, CD-Player and Cassette-Deck.

You can't kill these babies and they sound great. Large speakers.

When the CD-Player won't work no more, just open it up, clean the lens, good to go.

I am a failure to the Korean side of my family
Let's see I have a pioneer receiver with accompanying pioneer CD/LD player and a pair of Cambridge Soundworks bookshelf speakers. Then when I want to play my vinylI have a set of techniques speakers and turntable.

Yamaha in my house, and nothing else. With speakers from Bose.

You have obviously never heard a seriously good set of speakers. Put Bose next to a pair of Maggies and you'll never listen to them the same way. The only thing Bose has got going for it is the name, nothing more. Bose is for people who are tone deaf.

Toothie, please don't try to turn every thread into a Flame war.

Just say, you think one speaker system is better than another. That is enough.

Technics 100W Receiver
Kenwood 200 Disc CD Changer
Sony Turntable
Bose Bookshelf Speakers
Kenwood Tower Speakers (Old)

I'm looking to get a home entertainment system but know nothing about them, at the moment I've just got sound coming from my HD LCD TV which is bearable but when I play blurays on my bluray player the audio/dialogue is very soft whilst the sound effects/action scenes are VERY LOUD which makes it a nightmare setting the volume. I'm assuming speakers will resolve the problem (I also have an xbox 360), I don't want anything fancy but have seen this system on Amazon for £100 which is all I care to spend, what do you guys think of it?

Panasonic SC-XH50EB-K DVD 5.1ch 330W Home Cinema Kit

Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

DVD Home Cinema System
SC-XH50 features a 1080p up-conversion function that converts SD (720 x 576 pixels) images from DVD sources to HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) images. These up-converted signals draw out the maximum performance of an HDMI-compatible 1080p HDTV, giving you vivid, sharp and exceptionally detailed high-resolution images to enjoy.

VIERA Link lets you operate SC-XH50 with a single VIERA TV remote control. With VIERA Link, there's no more need to switch between multiple remote controls. Further, ARC (Audio Return Channel) feature makes it possible to receive audio signals from the TV, on top of the preexisting HDMI function of sending audio/video signals to the TV with just one cable. This simplifies connection by eliminating the audio cable connection between the TV audio output and the main unit's audio input. * ARC compatible TV is required.

Did you have to buy them Monster´s extra or were they including the system ?

I have a 5.1 Sony STR-K750P currently... Subwoofer is powered by a 25' Monster cable, which sounds better than the stock 5' cable!
Want to upgrade to some serious shit after my girlfriend & I get married & have our own house, but it works more than well for the time being.
I also use a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50s headphones with a FiiO E5 amplifier for when I must be quiet or am producing, seriously incredible 'phones.

...especially with them cables... if you want to safe money .. some of them are worth THE SHIT + don´t work at all , ..but some of them do so. Before you buy, make a BLIND TEST with a CD you really know. And the person who changes from one cable to the other should NOT tell you WHEN the change is ...
I got Monster´s on my ol Yamaha, they work there. But I don´t know if they work on Pioneer or Marantz for example, ...+ I only got NF´s ( cinch ) , on my speakers I had 4mm no - name + 4 mm *Oehlbach* ...NO difference at blind - test. 3 feet *Oehlbach* was about 90,-- Euro´s .
