I have no love lost for the yankees, and I won't be watching any of that programming. But no matter, as an iconic structure with all its history it's still kind of sad to see yankee stadium go.

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
I HATE the Yankees, but...I am going to miss Yankee Stadium.

The guys on PTI are right though...the ORIOLES as their last game? Make it the Red Sox for fuck's sake!!!

I am a big sports fan. But all stadiums mean the same to me...nothing.
They are concrete and metal and glass, etc....nothing more.

If only people put as much emotion into the sick and the oppressed as they do into inanimate objects.

What are they doing, man thats just stupid. I want to take my little girl there someday.

What next tare-down Washington DC.

Have you seen the new ticket prices at the new joint?

Prices for the best seats were announced in March, with the Yankees charging $500-$2,500 for tickets near home plate in the first nine rows, contained in 25 sections ringing home plate. In all, the Yankees have sold more than 3,500 of approximately 4,300 premium seats on the field, main and terrace levels, chief operating officer Lonn Trost said Friday.

The Yankees said Friday the remainder of the field-seats level seats cost from $75-$325 as part of season tickets, while main-level seats go for $45-$100. The highest deck is split into two areas, with terrace seats going for $40-$65 and grandstand selling for $20 and $25.

Jeez $500 for a seat that use to cost $45 just a few years ago. $40,500.00 for one season ticket.

Real Sport with Bryant Gumbel highlighted this issue.

I've only been to NY a couple times, but I was never there during baseball season to catch a game at Yankees Stadium. I don't care much for the team, but it would have been cool to see the place before they doze it. As for the new prices, those ticket increases are going to make it so the bread & butter Yankee's fans can't even go see a game anymore. The fans that have been sitting at field level for all these years will now be sitting up in the rafters, and only the big bucks clientele will be down in the good seats. It's a shame really, because the Yanks have always been a "working mans' kind of baseball team, and now all that seems to be over.

As someone who has lived in the NY area I have been to the stadium a few times of course. Not a lot, actually been to shea home of the mets a lot more. But Yankee stadium of course is extremely historic as the "house that Ruth built".But one thing I would disagree with you on is that the yankees were ever the working man's team In NYC.They were always seen as the rich mans team, back when NY had 3 teams the dodgers and the giants were seen as much more the working class teams.Even now I think the mets are seen as more that and the yankees are called the "evil empire" lol.

Wow, I didn't know that NY'ers looked at the Yank's that way. I know Steinbrenner likes to buy his Championship teams, but I figured that as long as there was a winning team with the Yanks, fans were cool with that. I always thought the Mets were more of the "second rate" New York team (even though I was a HUGE Dwight Gooden & Strawberry fan back in the day). I guess that's just a west coast perception. Just like it's always seemed, to me, that the Giants were the NY football team, and the Jets have always been second.

Now I'm confused.Yes the mets are seen as more the lower level team by most to the Yankees which makes the mets more attractive image wise to the working class. The yankees are the rich guys team with all the advantages of money ,history etc(the evil empire lol ).Although in reality money wise and all that the mets and yanks are pretty close. And on Giants/Jets I being much more a Giants fan think you got that right ,Giants are much more beloved by all here overall. nothing wrong with Jets but giants are much more popular I think.Somehow the Giants have never suffered from the image problems the yankees have although you would see them as similar respectively.Steinbrenner and the all melodrama and prima-donna's the yankees have had as managers and players might explain it.:dunno:

Ok I think I''ve got it now

Yankees = More Popular with NY'ers, but the "rich man's" team
Mets = Less popular, but popular with the blue collar fans

I'm not old enough to know personally, but it seems that the Yankees had a completely different image before say 1960. The Mantle, DiMagggio, Berra, Martin years seemed like such great days for the Yankees, and that back then, maybe they were more of a working class type team. Back when having a winning team that the fans appreciated came before making hundreds of millions of dollars.

It's strange when one city has two teams in the same sport. It divides the city a little, but makes for a great rivalry. I'm in San Diego, but it's the same with the Dodgers / Angles & Lakers / Clippers.

I guess yanks are more popular but not by much, its just the popularity is among different types of people I think. But no I still don't think the yanks were ever the working class team at least not compared to the dodgers especially. But the yankees won so much and had such players that they were big with everyone in those days.In those days before revenue sharing and all that the Yankess would just get all the best players all the time for the most part.Thats how they won 5 straight world series in the 50s and have won by far the most series in history and have had all those great players.I remember once for a video game I named my team the "Dead yankees" and said just imagine the line up I can field lol.:1orglaugh

Now come on, major league baseball wouldnt let theyre beloved Red Sox have a road game this late in the season, they'd be afraid a road game this late may keep them from winning the division, although it looks like they arent going to anyway. lol

In regards to the Mets/Yankees, the Mets have always played the little brother to the Yankees, and only recently have they been seen as anything near equal and that is really only due to the Mets owners throwing open the checkbook and throwing huge amounts of money at players, with the result being that the Yankees and Mets have both had two of the highest payrolls in the major leagues for going on almost a decade, with little or nothing to show for it. It's been 8 years since the Yankees last World Series win and 22 years (1986) since the Mets last won it.

As for the ESPN coverage, can you say overkill?
