Having been a long-time fan of hers, I'd like to just chime in here with a different perspective, based on nothing more than speculation and my interpretation of her change in attitude.
Her fanbase was dwindling over the years, and was leading to a steady decline. It was still quite a large fanbase, but it was getting smaller, and she's been getting older. Most of us here wouldn't mind if she were still doing this well into her 40's, I'm sure, but it would be harder to attract new fans like that. Not a lot of older women make it as solo girls. My perception of the situation is that this is why she chose to go to school and start looking into new career options; something to fall back on, since camming wasn't going to last forever.
I think, at the moment, her silence is indicative of a career "pause", rather than a flat out retirement. She wants to keep the option there in case of unexpected happenings; bills that need to be paid or something like that. If she were to tell everyone she's done before all her ducks are in a row, but then needed to come back, she would find a lot of her fans had already moved on.
As a fan, I don't agree with the "one foot out the door" approach at all. It feels dishonest to us to have us holding out hope for her return constantly, when it might not happen. But from her standpoint, I can understand why she's doing it. My hope is that, if nothing else, when her life is in order and she feels confident in closing the book, she'll give us a goodbye. Or maybe one last run on MFC, if we're lucky.
Either way, I'm just happy for the years of content she gave us.
