but anyway, personal preferences aside, my main beef is that consoles are coming out too fast. theres not enough time to fully immerse yourself into the games themselves before its outdated. the focus is on the race, not the quality. xbox people should know that one the most. that red ring shit. everyone i knew had that happen to them, even after they had it "fixed."

one of the reasons i dont jump at a new console is that its outdated in a year or two. whats the point? i dont want to be one of those kids that keeps buying the newest system only to be outdated so soon.

with these systems, theres big money put down on them. its a half to a whole paycheck for most people. thats a big investment just to keep up with the jonses.

you can pick on me all you want for saying i thought the games for the snes were the funnest ive played, but it wont change my feelings. got forbid mario world and street fighter 2 was so fucking fun. i get it, you like xbox. thats fine. its just not my cup of tea. sometimes i wonder if you own stock in their company.

Remember the last time they rushed to get a console out before a competitor's console hit the market? I remember a lot of crappy manufacturing and an unprecedented amount of consoles that ended up breaking and needing to be sent back to get fixed.

This is called... and I'm making it up, but it's true..... Nintendo-ing...

i just dont care for the system. new or old. just like i never cared for the sega systems.

i play something new. the wii. i also had a psp, didnt care for that either. sold it.

tried both xboxes several times, didnt like em. i think the games are more focused on graphics than gameplay.

I agree with that some of the old stuff is great. I agree that the pricing is horrible for the new games and some of them.... cough cough EA cough cough.... focuses more on the graphics than the actual gameplay. I like playing my PS2 more than my PS3. We'll see what the future holds though.

Prime examples of rushing (that I can remember)

Nintendo:
WII, DS3d, DSI, Game Cube

Xbox: Xbox and the 360

Playstation: PS1 and the slim PS2

Sega: Saturn, Dreamcast, 32x, CD

Then you'd probably be better off with a PC. As the years go on, game consoles become obsolete in comparison in just 2-3 years. I've never had a PC for gaming but I think about doing it every so often. Just hook it up to the LED TV, sit on the couch and you can't tell the difference (except I imagine the resolution might not be that good then)

That's the stupidest statement I've heard all year.

Sure,PC's will always be ahead of the curve over consoles, but consoles are made for for ease of gaming, and not having to upgrade components. If consoles are absolete in comparison in 2-3 years, developers would stop making games for it,and go strait to developing for PCs only,or make every console game a PC port.

I also think that the home consoles are actually catching up with PCs.When PS3 and 360 first came out, they really weren't that far behind, but the problem is that they can only be as good as the permanent hardware will allow developers to make it,while PCs are always pushing ahead.

The thing is,that every new console generation seems to push the stagnant PCs of the same era.So in essence, consoles are like a step stool for PCs to take the next step forward in game development.

I kinda agree with this. Just like a lot of people are getting netflix instead of cable, XBOX and PS are probably looking to take out the computers (even though this will never happen.) ALso just like itouch/pads/whatever are taking over gameboys and psp's. But, there is talks of the consoles becoming obsolete, and I kinda agree with this too if they keep up with the high prices, bad games, and unstable systems.

i dont see the merge of PCs and consoles myself. pcs are so much more than gaming. they are how you get work done.

you cant get work done on a console. sure, you can browse a shitty browser but, without being on a desk, with a printer, a keyboard, and a mouse, there will forever be a distinct difference between a gaming console and a pc.

and gaming on a pad or whatever is like gaming on an android phone. sure there's some fun games, but, you cant play a lot of games on it. i tried to play street fighting yesterday on the phone. it was bullshit. you need a real d-pad and real buttons. and 2 touch zones is bullshit. you need more than 4 touch zones and you're still not actually pressing anything.

consoles will live on. i just hope they all get together and slow down production and focus on the games instead of trying to be the first with a "next-gen" product.

You can hook up a keyboard, mouse, and printer to a PS3. You can also put it on a desk next to your computer so you can use the same monitor. So technically, they can be used as computers.... problem solved.

And about your gameing on a pad or android.... maybe you just suck and need some practice.... LOL

But yet again... I agree that they should focus on the future of gaming, not what they can do to make things just a tad better than the last system.

People drive cars, and they break down all the time and are expensive to fix, and the RROD thing does not happen nearly as much as people say it does. Plus, if you didn't buy it from some kid on Craigslist, it'll more than likely have a manufacturer or store warranty for free repairs. It's a complicated piece of equipment, you know. The reason your snes doesn't break is because its much simpler. As far as rushing out the consoles, the 360 launched in Nov 2005. It's already been nearly 7 years, and it'll be at least another year before the new one comes out, so about 8 years. Nintendo took 7 years in between the NES and SNES and 6 years between the SNES and N64, so I don't really see any validity to that argument.

I think you tried Xbox (or playstation) once or twice 5 or 6 years, heard a couple of bad things, and decided that you were never going to play it. There's literally hundreds of games on the new platforms that challenge people in unique ways, you just don't want to try them for more than 5 minutes. Sure, there's "fast food" types of games where you're just mindlessly staring at a screen in zombie mode for a couple of minutes, and those games have their place, but to condemn the lot is like refusing to listen to any and all music because you only heard justing bieber and lady gaga.

Every gaming outlet is going to have bad games, that's a given, but high priced games and unstable systems really pose a huge threat to consoles.

As for pricing,I think that within the next two to three years, you are going to see a massive amount of free to play games on the market, mainly in the online gaming space. If not totally F2P,then there will be cheaper games with microtransactions. We are just now scratching the surface of the F2P market, and I think that it's only going to get bigger.

As for Stability, yeah,it can be a real issue with the next gen consoles. If there's a repeat of the RRD for the new XBox,that thing will be dead in the water before it even has a chance to do anything.I think that people are really going to remember how pissed off they were the first time around, and won't stand for it again.

Jesus Fucking Christ. Live with it. I don't need to give you the speech about why it's better than the old controllers again. Play it for an hour or two and you won't even notice it any more. Especially if you find a game that you really like. Go get the latest Final Fantasy or whatever it is you play and just fucking play it for a while.

You're making kind of a big deal about the game prices. How much were the SNES and NES games when they first came out? Probably the equivalent of today's 50$, methinks. Not to mention you can buy shitloads of excellent games used for cheap if you're willing to wait a while. That's what I do most of the time. Unless it's a game with A+ multiplayer that you'd want to get in on right away (Gears Of War, Halo, CoD, whatever your preference) or a single player game that you've been waiting for forever (Skyrim, GTA, Assassin's Creed, whathaveyou), you can almost always get it for way cheaper in a few months. The only genre this doesn't seem to apply to is the sports games, because they only have a 1 year shelf-life. Even then, you can just get the previous year's game for dirt cheap if you don't care about MP.

Original NES with controlers and Super Mario Bros, according to http://classicgaming.gamespy.com/View.php?view=ConsoleMuseum.Detail&id=26 cost $199 when it was released.
